OK-I admit it-I proudly grew up in front of the TV screen!
This thread can celebrate your favorite past TV shows-I don't care what era it's from, just try to make it a show that is no longer running new espisodes.

My first choice:
THE AVENGERS (episodes featuring Diana Rigg as Mrs. Peel-one of my true role models!)

Family Affair
I thought that the doors in the apartment were the coolest things ever b/c the doorknobs were in the middle of the door.
Also, the doll, Mrs. Beasley. How freaking cool was she?

I skipped over this thread when it first came out. I enjoyed The Avengers. Diana Rigg left the show about the time that she did that one Jame Bond movie that starred George Lazenby (at least that's what I remembered). Patrick Macnee also showed up in one of the James Bond movies (A View to a Kill, the one with Christopher Walken).

There was a strange one around that time called The Prisoner starring Patrick McGoohan which we watched. It was one of those shows where you were trying to figure out what was really going on. I would guess that Lost probably gets some of the interest based on its similar theme of dropping you into the middle of a situation and not telling you what's going on and forcing the viewers to watch and try to see if you can figure it out.

I remember growing up watching some of these shows:
  1. The Flintstones
  2. Star Trek (original series)
  3. The Man From Uncle (and also the Girl from Uncle)
  4. Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In
  5. The Monkees
  6. The Newlywed Game
  7. Hogan's Heroes
  8. The Courtship of Eddie's Father
  9. Family Affair (one TV in the house)
  10. Gilligan's Island

I remember other shows like The Rat Patrol (which was a WWII series set in desert Africa), The Lieutenant, starring Gary Lockwood who would end up on 2001 and was also in one of the old Star Trek episodes.

I need to think about this awhile, because there were a bunch of other shows from the 60s and 70s.

I pretty much watched SNL from the beginnings.

Oh yes, I remember Square Pegs as well. Sarah Jessica Parker went on to bigger things and better things after leaving that show, but so did Jami Gertz, who ended up in several movies and the TV show that she shared with one of the actors who was in the movie The Full Monty.

I remember that song by The Waitresses.

I also remember watching Claire Danes in My So Called Life when it was on TV. Short lived show.

Did you happen to catch United States with Beau Bridges and Helen Shaver. It was a fairly odd TV show as it was a comedy, but no laugh track. It was put out by Larry Gelbart, who was one of the geniuses behind M*A*S*H, the series, which is one of the other shows that should have been on my list.

MARY HARTMAN, MARY HARTMAN

I CAN'T GET RID OF THAT WAXY YELLOW BUILD-UP...

Don't forget the spinoff to Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman: Fernwood 2Night.

I believe this eventually became America 2Night.

Trampoline-
SQUARE PEGS is one of my ultimate fav TV shows. From utilizing The Waitresses (one of my fav groups EVER!) to being one of the first tv shows to really depict high school as the cliquey hell it usually is, SP is just the definitive early 80's show. It sadly is SO overdue for a legit DVD reissue. Remember Devo even guested on the show!!!
Jami Gertz portrayed Muffie Temperton-an obnoxious know-it-all preppie & Tracy Nelson was fab as the resident, ultra popular Valley Girl, Jennifer. It is also the only thing I can honestly say I like Sarah Jessica Parker in.
Sadly, drug problems on the cast & crew did the show in after 1 1/2 glorious seasons!
LONG LIVE WEEMAWEE HIGH!!!!

I agree about X Files, WLY-I used to love it till it got so confusing near the end. But the first 3 seasons or so were just amazing

have you seen the movie? if not you need. it really wasn't all that confusing. they explained everything in the two part full disclosure that was a part of the season that followed the movie. it's when moulder leaves that the shows loses it's steam.

I loved the entire first season. But my favorite was probably the episode wear Farrah jumps on her skateboard to escape the baddies. I even started carrying mine around in a pillow case after that. I was PO’d when she left and hated Cheryl at first, but warmed up to her. I thought Tanya was a hottie. The only one I didn’t get was Shelly. I mean, run a comb through your hair please! tongue.gif

Another great choice-in some ways, I actually HATED that show so much at the time, but it has such great camp value-like Molly being in just Season One & what a whacko that Lisa Welchel became...
Yeah, those Farrah episodes are really Iconic-too bad Lee Majors was such a jerk & made her quit the show...

I got reminded of the Mary Tyler Moore show when I got out of college and did a year up in the twin cities area. We saw the lakes that were shown in the intro as well as the pictures from the tallest building in Minneapolis (they show the escalators from that building in the intro as well).

I love Minneapolis a lot, but it's so freaking cold in the winter. I remember going to see the original Lord of the Rings animated movie when it opened up there and it was +10 degrees at the beginning of the movie and -10 degrees at the end of the movie.

Brrrr! I get cold just thinking about it.

I have loved this show since the first time I saw it when I was, like, 6-7 years old. I have both seasons on DVD and have watched them many times. It's such a schizophrenic show. Some of the episodes are just flat out weird, and to have once been on on Saturday mornings (and in the 70s, no less) it has quite a few risqué jokes.

Interesting Fact: did you know that Frank Zappa was in an episode?

That is just practically my fav show period & definitely my fav animated show ever. I love it from it's realistic characters to it's cool music soundtrack. It's just beyond rad & I relate to it, too, on so many levels. I'm probably too animated to be a male Daria, but I could very easily be a male Jane...

I've seen "Head" a couple times. It's actually not that bad, it's just really trippy. It's easy to see why it didn't do so well back then (despite some talented people being involved, ie Jack Nicholson), it's nothing like someone would expect a "monkees movie" to be. I think you're right, I'm pretty sure Zappa was in it too.

I always liked Mickey the best, because he was funny and goofy, but Davy was pretty cute.

I know. I wonder if they'll ever get around to it though. I mean, it took them 10 years (wasn't it?) to release Beavis and Butthead, and even then it wasn't the whole series, it was just the "Mike Judge Collection."

Doesn't Annette Funicello put in a cameo in "Head"? It's been a long time. I actually think I saw that in college during this 60's film festival they had on campus, but I could be mistaken. I know I saw "The Trip" & "Wild in the Streets" that way (two other really campy 60's flicks you'd like).
As for "Daria", I know, BOY I hope they do something about it-I wonder where Daria would be in her life now?

I still love the theme song

Yep, we were much too addicted to this one growing up (first run, baby!).

I just getting caught up on this. CC says that she was 6-7 seeing the Monkees. I think I was 7 or 8, but that was also first run.

Shows my age doesn't it? I remember seeing the return to episode in '78 or '79 where they finally got off the island. They had a new Ginger, but all of the old cast.

How many of them are still alive? The actress that played Mary Ann and maybe Ginger. Bob Denver even passed away. Shoot!

I think that this was one of the first times that Haley Mills' sister showed up in something. Richard Long had previously appeared in Big Valley, which was the first series with Linda Evans (she later married and divorced John Derek and appeared in Dynasty with Joan Collins).

I Know Tina Louise, Dawn Wells & Russell Johnson (The Professor) are still alive. Dawn was doing a lot of things for awhile-she actually came to a store a friend of mine worked at to promote her GI's Cookbook & he said she was the sweetest lady-she even helped him stock cards before the store opened. I know the Professor works with one of those Parents Supporting Gay & Lesbian children groups coz he came to town here to speak for them.
Tina has always been kind've a twat about the show-that's why she wasn't on the 70's reunion-she always thought it "ruined" her career, though I understand lately she has tried to be nicer. I know Bob Denver didn't have too much nice to say about her in his book.

I actually played a That Girl! Slot machine in Vegas! I even pulled $10 bucks out of it! The bonus featured Marlo in glamour fashion outfits-perhaps the gayest machine in the casino....
In short, I LOVE MARLO! She still was one of the absolute coolest people on 60's TV & still looks so fab now, as well as being just a cool woman, in general.
I remember her playing the mom of a gay son in one of those "topical" 80's TV movies-she has a freakout in her car when she first "learns", but ends up being totally supportive.
