Are there any songs that you think Liz will never play again?

I was just listening to Go On Ahead, and I can't see her ever playing that again.

I'd also be shocked to hear Strange Loop, Shatter, or Dance of the Seven Veils.

And even more shocked if she brought back songs like Wasted, You Have No Idea, or I'll Get You High.

I'd be surprised to hear anything off of Whipsmart other than Chopstix, Supernova and Jealousy, unfortunately.

I remember at the House of Blues in Chicago in 2004, someone in the audience requested May Queen and Liz said that it was "too fucking hard" to do.

Yeah I think I was standing next to that person, I remember that.
Baby Blue
I would LOVE to hear Strange Loop, Bloodkeeper, or Insanity live but I doubt I ever will.

The one song that I would like to hear live is...

*Drum roll*

Carnivore. Has she ever performed that?

That would rock. I can't remember any boots that had Carnivore live.

fucked up blair23
does she actually complain that her songs are too hard? damn, kristin hersh never says that and her songs can splice her fingers.
i wonder if she can ever squeeze you have no idea in one of her albums. if she wants to have a soft love song, better be that one.
LightYears
Someone needs to make her play piano on stage and make her do some piano led songs.
zrog
Strange loop. We'll have too listen to all those old bootlegs to get that fix. biggrin.gif
zrog
Ooops! Sorry RBD!

I was at both of the recent Boston shows and when someone yelled our for Alice Springs, Liz commented that it was a song she should start adding back into the set list.
BionicEyes
Eh....Liz would play any of her songs again. She's not THAT predictable. She played 'White Babies' in NYC. That means she'll revisit anything.
Suke
When I read that article and saw she played that my jaw dropped.
LightYears
Someone needs to drag the piano on stage and make her play those piano songs. Like I said before. I want a "Chopsticks" and a "Canary"
Suke
Canary indeed. I would love for her to play that. I want California and Fire up the Batmobile, too. biggrin.gif

RDB

I wonder if she could do an adaptation of the keyboards on Headache on the piano.

She played chopsticks at both of the shows that I saw last year.
Kiddo
I wish she'd play If I Ever Pay You Back.
QuieroPhair
I wish she would play "sometimes a dream"

Has she ever played that?

or animal girl? I would love to hear that.
CharliesGirl
I requested South Dakota a couple times... and when I requested Baby Got Goin she muttered she didn't think she could even remember it. She did, and it was pretty rockin. She's been playing Baby Got Goin every show since the Boston show this year. The crowd went nuts.
Suke
I know I would love to hear Fire up teh Batmobile. On that video where someone requested it I got so excited. Liz teased by singing a little of it then stopped.
LightYears
I think there should be a thread "Songs Liz will hopefully never play again" laugh.gif
fucked up blair23
lys, what are you doing in this forum? such a downer, damn.

LightYears
Oh I love Liz really.

She just needs to get her act together.
fucked up blair23
let's just listen to girlysound together. we'll get through this together.
LightYears
Liz sort of did a Jewel on us - She cashed in, but she didn't realise Jewel still sometimes sings about real things.
QuieroPhair
Blair is going to kill you. jewel is even worse than Kelly Clarkson...

*then why can't we, fix my teeth?*

^heh, kayli will get that one.
fucked up blair23
yeah, jewel still does have the same lyrics as she did before, very pseudo political and stuff. sometimes, i really hate that and wanna kill her and sometimes, i like it. and her poppiness is catchy too. what's that song about kate moss and j.lo. i kind of liked it, danced to it many times.

thing about liz's lyrics is that they didn't really veer off topic but just lost edge and sense of poetry, not to mention that the music surrounding her words is so over processed like bad pop corn. still, i'll buy it because i don't lose hope for my favorite artist, ever and i don't really have much else to do. biggrin.gif

"Intuition." That song was such a bobbing song and I like it.

The thing with Jewel is - she's not the best lyricist. She's cute. She can be an intresting lyricist or just a plain bad one. (Example;
"In my heart there are four rooms, three wait for lighting and the other waits for you."
"Do you hate him 'cause he's a jew? Do you hate him 'cause he's pieces of you?"
"These hands are small I know, but they are not yours, they are my own - In the end, only kidness matters.")

But Jewel has a pretty good voice, don't you think? "You were meant for me" is gorgeous. She can get away with pop. She's still writing what she wants and she has a great voice to send it off with.
fucked up blair23
the thing that made jewel's pop makeover easier for some people to take is that she was never in the level of liz's songwriting. i mean, liz was heralded as having the probability of becoming the next bob dylan. jewel was lumped in with the whole nineties, ethereal chick rockers deal and her lyrics are a bit cutesy and precious, "pieces of you" had a lot of great moments though, great cute moments but she never really takcled sexual politics the way liz did. she can get away with the pop surface because she's always been pretty poppy in the first place.

bit of gossip: she called bob dylan a faggot.
it kind of made me cringe and lose respect for her when i heard that.

wait, did i just destroy another topic again? or was it you?

No, it was definatly you.

Jewel called Bob dylan a faggot!? Wow, that cow. Lol.

Also, Jewel has a great voice, don't you think? I was just listening to "You were meant for me" and Jewel does have a great voice.
fucked up blair23
not great, good. appealing but she does that whole black woman thing too much, like she makes her voice teeny and then makes it all rough and thick. sometimes, it grates. it's like, "shut up, bitch"

and it was you.
LightYears
I hate when Jewel uses sex to sell her music. She's ok looking but she's not as sexy as she thinks she is.

Jewel does have a good voice - she doesn't always use it. And she's changed how she uses it. She sounds so young in all of her albums but the last.

Her new single is out in September. I'm really intrested to see what style she'll do on it.
JeremyEngle
Jewel is a bitch, and she sucks.

I mean, I've heard she's a real bitch. And her music definitely sucks.

And LightYears, your idea for that other thread is great.
LightYears
Lol!

In other news, Heather's new cd is going to rock. The lyrics to some of it are pretty cliched - motherhood seems to do that to musicians. But songs like "I miss my sky" will rock.

My top song would be Lost Tonight and everything to me. I know everyone says favorite, but... It doesn't seem so bad now.

Why? Is it not possible to post something without her in it?
LightYears
*shrug*

I have a problem.
Suke
There should be a AA meeting for you. biggrin.gif
LightYears
An H.A meeting you mean. The new video is GREAT! Lol. Actually, it's a bit boring compared to her older videos.

I don't knoww if she'll play I'll get you high or wasted because she doesn't smoke anymore so she says and she is a mother so I don't aoubt her but If I become a singer (which I may) I'll redo them if she lets me because I'm getting good at them, everytime I'm stoned I just go around looking at the world singing those songs lmao! good times.

No, she didn't.

I'm sure she couldn't even play that song if she wanted to...
QuieroPhair
Thats a shame.

hey jeremy, do you have a list, or can you remember the various girlysound tracks Liz has played at her shows over the years? Just wondering because nobody seems to have a complete list. I'm just interested in what songs from girlysound she still can play.

What she's played in the past and what she can still remember how to play today are two separate things. But yeah, here goes:

(from the 1995 solo electric tour):

Pay You Back
Slave

(from the current acoustic tour):

Black Market White Baby Dealer
Wild Thing (also played at Lounge Ax in Chicago, 1999)
Pay You Back

Wow, that's not much, is it? There was also one (entirely unsubstantiated) report from a dude on the support-system mailing list claiming that she played "Slave" (as well as "Gunshy", which would be a first) at one of the shows on the current tour. However, his setlist didn't match others, and he admitted that he didn't know the names of her songs and had made them up for himself (he referred to "Divorce Song" as "Box It Up"). Yeah, so... nevermind.

I bet the main trouble is that she truly doesn't know how to play a lot of them. Girlysound is made up of soooo many crazy, mixed-up chords that I'm sure the number of those tunes she could play is very small. I mean, if she can't even remember "Carnivore", how's she gonna do "Shane" or "Six Dick Pimp"? ::sigh:: Such a shame...

SHE DID?! ohmy.gif I saw her twice last year and she didn't play it at either. I was ripped off!
