I don't like emos.
But I wouldn't say emo music is bad.
I'd rather listen to Funeral for a friend than something like 50 cent.

If these guys annoy you that much then I can only advise you stay your side of the Atlantic (I have only see US posts on this site), because that’s about all you get over here (specifically/especially on prime-time Music TV)
To get anything worth listening to you really have to search for it and just ignore anything in the public domain.
Those more observant members amongst you may have noticed a touch of jealousy in my voice, as most small/mid-sized bands don't even bother jumping the pond when touring.
Does Liz ever reach the sunny(!) UK shores?
Oh yes (sorry), how ignorant of me: Hello all.

Yeah...everybody who lives around here is way too emo or hardcore for my liking. I think I'm like the only metal kid around here (hardcore doesn't count). For some reason, everybody listens to hardcore now.

I guess that just the wayt it goes........ (Metal never was overly popular (perhaps its better that way) - I always wanted metal to become more populate when I was at school but glad it never was - as it terms out that Popular Metal is only EMO!)
Oh yes while I'm back here -
Hi to All UK Fans: my previous post on this thread was possibily my first on the forum. I now know there are lots on UK fans around too.

I've had a complete change of heart over this emo thing.
And I've decided the following emo bands are listenable;
1. Finch
2. Dashboard Confessional.
3. Further seems forever (Though they were better when they had DC's singer.)
4. Funeral for a friend.
5. Taking back sunday.
6. Brand New.
7. The spiderman 2 OST.
I wouldn't pick any of them above Heather Nova, Tori Amos, Aimee Mann, Liz Phair, etc etc. But y'know, I could do a lot worse than emo music.

Emo is a hyrbid of punk and rock and it use to be about wearing too big sweaters, having the same hair as me and then crying all the time.

i love emo music . I also love more metal and hardcore. I listen to all kinds of music. But let me go down the list here:
Longish Black hair . . . Check
T shirts . . . Check
Studded Belt . . . . Check (most of the time)
Black & White Checkered Vans ( Converse are sooo 2 years ago) . . . Check
I guess you would call me emo looking. But I woudn't.

Is EMO the same as "nu-punk?" (or lack of punk...) or is that different? Seems like "EMO" kids and "power pop (aka PUNK as in SUM41or good charlotte) kids melt together at my school.
LightYears
Jul 22 2005, 01:23 PM
In my experience, the "Emo" kids listen to Funeral for a friend and Dashboard Confessional, etc etc. (Just buy the Spiderman 2 OST and you'll get the drift. Actually, that is a very good album...anyway.)
And the people who listen to Good Charlotte are people who alo listen to Avril Lavigne and Green day and have the cheek to label all those people/bands as punk.

Dashboard confessional seems whiny and poppy to me, but I have only heard their vindicated song. The lyrics seem rather manic to me; but I am not familiar with them in the least. What are they all about LY?
LightYears
Jul 22 2005, 09:46 PM
This is music LY and I like music QP, so anyway,
Dashboard are pretty whiny lmao. I have their Unplugged album. They're basically typical teenage songs. Like "I'm being alienated." They're not really that pretensious. They're just "This person doesn't like me, whatever."
Sometimes it's nice to hear it just as it is.

So, bare bones and in easy type
EMO = WHINY
I'll tuck that away for future reference

There are a few songs where he sings really well. He does have a nice voice when he wants to use it. Give me your email if you like, and I'll send you some.
