hey, not bad for a bunch of Beatles Rip-off artists.

a few thoughts:
Appetite for Destruction not in the Top 10? hrmmph.

Public Enemy with two albums in the top 25? uh no, A nation deserves its' spot but fear of a black planet shouldn't even be on this list.

oh yeah... they should have thrown in the first stone roses album somewhere in the top 20.

I really don't understand why Rid of Me is supposedly the best PJ Harvey album. I love To Bring You My Love so much more.

Spin put out a list like this not four years ago if memory serves. It was like a 90s album list.
Suke
Appetite for Destruction....
The Cure's Head on the Door...
NIN The Downward Spiral...

Finally a good list of music! I'm still not sure that EIG is better than AFD though wink.gif
Solar
Something tells me that the editor in chief of Spin is on the take with Radiohead. That magazine is always raving over them. rolleyes.gif
Gareth
Wow Liz scored well on that.. Number 15! that’s awesome.

radiohead where number one in a countdown of the 100 greatest albums of all time over here. i never have really stoped to listen to their music before.
Solar
Critics tend to fawn over Radiohead because they're supposedly so artsy and original. To me, a lot of it is just unpalatable noise. The only album of theirs I own is Pablo Honey, an early one from before they went off the deep end.
MissKitty
Interesting that "Everything is Wrong" made the list but "Play" did not. Huh.
Kiddo
I'm sorry but Oasis, Guns and Roses, Eminem, stone roses and various other suck so much. They really do.
LightYears
Incidently, That's the first both-gender album list from the ninties where I haven't seen Alanis mentioned somewhere.

Pablo Honey is my fav too biggrin.gif

I never got really got what the deal with Radiohead was after that. I bit like modern art, I s'pose there must be something in it 'cos everyone raves about it (see list!) but I can't see it. mellow.gif

CAN YOU STOP USING THE WORD CLIQUE!? It's a group.

A group.

Not a clique.

Ugh, that word is so annoying.

What month of Spin Magazine was Liz in? I went to a local bookstore and found the June copy, but on page 30, Liz wasn't there. I guess it may have been a special issue - that I'm not sure of.

I think Liz Phair should do the acoustic thing - like Alanis. All of her songs done differently would be awesome. Imagine Dance of the Seven Veils acoustic but with her voice in tune. Wow. That would be so great.

Wow. I dont know if I agree with that whole list.

Homogenic or vespertine are infinitely stronger than post, but at any rate exile in guyville is an epic albumand it is no suprise it is on here.

I don't like how Tori Amos or Heather Nova didn't make that list.

They were before Liz, and I think Liz gets whey too much credit for opening up the 90's female rock/indie genre. When Heather and Tori did it before her.
QuieroPhair
I think Little earthquakes should have made this list.

I dont listen to heather so i cant comment. I mean, do people agree she is as amazing as you say?
Suke
QP don't give in to LY's evergrowing plague!
QuieroPhair
heh heh heh ok I wont

tongue.gif
Solar
No, they don't. Heather's career has gone widely unnoticed. Had one decent song way back in '93 or something like that but has been totally off radar since then.

And here's the thing...neither Heather not Tori rock. Not in the least. That's why you never hear about them being influential in early stages of the female rocker boom of the early 90's.
QuieroPhair
I assume you mean something more by "rock" than just a crummy adjective.

I think LE rocks, piano can rock cant it?

heh the argument sounded good in my head, but now I am not so sure.
Suke
All I know is I saw Tori do Smells Like Teen Spirit, and thought I was going to have to slit my wrists during the video. I couldn't stand it.
Solar
I put Tori much closer to the easy listening end of the spectrum than rock...well, except for the psychotic lyrics and all...but musically, no, she aint a rocker.

And while we're talking crummy adjectives, let's discuss "indie." laugh.gif
Cat >^..^<
I used to think I knew what indie was until I had a chat with my uncle who had a compleatly different idea!

Independant music doesn't have one sound.
Suke
A kid in my English class did a report on Indie Music. He started naming artists, and to my surprise he said Liz Phair, but I involuntarily yelled, "Before she sold out!" And I felt a little bit of hate when I said it. Everyone told me that I sounded so cold and mean, and that it gave them the goosebumps.
Solar
All "indie" is is not being signed to a major label, which is pretty much unavoidable if you're any good. Not to say there aren't good artists out there on small labels or no label at all, but talented artists tend to get signed. Music, like it or not, is a business every bit as much as it is an art form.

and thus begins the inane counterpoint...
Solar

Oh that is such crap. Heather rocks.

Heather has had tons of good singles, but her name always gets lost from people's minds. She's found it so hard to break into the uk and the usa, she's a huge hit in a lot of europe though.

Solar is refering to "Walk this world" which was her single off oyster. And it was the sound of Oyster. That album sold around a million. The album got really good reviews and everyone loved it.

She had a small album before it "glow stars" but it wasn't really released. Her single "Spirit in you." is a really rare item and on ebay usually goes for more than £300

Her next single was "London rain" which was her single off oyster. That did better than walk this world, was a hint of the sound of siren, and was the Dawson's creek themetune for ages. This album sold 700,000 copies very quickly. But it has now sold a million.

Her next album "South" was poor. But that really wasn't her idea. It was a meddling record company's plan at trying to make her more successful. Her frail writing was crushed under the bad production. Heather herself says it's her least fav album and it doesn't feel as much like her and that it's too over-produced to give people the point it was suppose to give. However, South got to number 5 and was a big hit in a lot of europe, where her cover of "Gloomy sunday" which was in a film of the same name, got into top 10. The album got really good reviews, as it was relaxed and her voice -as always- was amazing. But the fans hated it.

Heather left V2 and made her next album by herself. It reached top 5 and was amazing. It was named as "her best album yet" and it was really good. Oyster is still my fav though.

Her new album is out soon.

*ends rant* I can't believe I typed that out.

But Heather is excellent.
Solar
If Heather rocks, then you've got the softest definition of "rock" I've ever seen. Not surprising she's fared well in the europop market, considering how soft she is.
LightYears

I didn't mean that type of rock.

Anything goes into the charts over here. Slipknot were 15th in the charts for ages.

I think Heather is indie. But she can rock on something like "Sugar" or "Island" (the live version at the twist.)

That's why a lot of people like her album "Blow" a lot. It's a different side of Heather. Much rockier than her usual self.

i definitely would have put little earthquakes in the list but not, NOT before exile in guyville. it just should not happen.

and heather nova will never get in such a list. she's just not famous stateside and does not hold much clout outside europe. no, it does not mean that she's not a good artist. it's just that she hasn't really released a breakout album or a breakout song. she's actually kind of considered a part of the lilith fair crowd and not an integral part of it either. haha (points to lys).
Solar
Oh, for crying out loud. Don't "think" if someone is indie or not. Just read the spine of their latest album to see what label they're on. There is no such thing as an indie sound. The closest thing you get to one is that they typically feature lo-fi recording and production, and that's usually not because of anything intentional, but simply because it's all they can afford.

I think it's a shame she doesn't enjoy as much sucsess in the US. Well, atleast europe knows who she is. And sometimes it's nice that she's like a secret.

*smiles*

*walks off thinking about how the new album is out sooooooonnnn*
