I'm surprised that he wasn't going to stick around for FUB's birthday.
May King
Bye bye.
QuieroPhair
FUB has a birthday? I always just assumed he was made from black magic or crawled out from under a rock.
QuieroPhair
FREAK!!!
May King
Hehe.
QuieroPhair
You're good at digging up old threads and finding yucky pictures of people.
May King
I found the yucky pics from a Kittyradio thread and I look at what threads the guests are looking at here.
QuieroPhair
Spooky. You'd make a good veronica mars. Minus the good looks.
May King
Lol.
QuieroPhair
Nah, I'm kidding, I am sure you have a beautiful personality.
trampolinefromspace
What was weird was that I remembered FUB's birthday without resorting to checking old threads.

I guess that I need to kill myself now.
Cherub's Ass

Boxes can have "doors" if you are crazy enough.
wooden and alone

Hmm, sounds like the beginning of Bjork/Sjon's next song trilogy...

In a penis pitch dark
glowed the tiniest spark

My friend fub
Living by hisself
My love fub
Married to his penis
wooden and alone
that's a number one hit

If anything you've just shown how generally lame Bjorks lyrics are.

Comparing her to someone else doesn't give her any credentials and is a poor arguemental tool.

We can talk about Tori another time, go and make a thread if you like.
Cherub's Ass
I agree that Bjork's lyrics can be pretty simple, but I like them well enough.

Tori's are very good, very intelligent, but they sort of annoy me sometimes in their impenetrability.

My favorite lyrics by anyone would probably be Liz Phair early.
LightYears
See previous (albeit edited whilst you were posting) response.

you're right cherub. tori's lyrics are so very hard to get into sometimes. if you don't want us to know what you're talknig about then don't say anything. really like tori, but sometimes i wish she'd ease up in her lyrics. yo george is perfect example of that. pure genuis and simple to get into/follow without losing any of the intellectualism.
wooden and alone
you write the best lyrics, wly.

I'd call Bjork's lyrics incredibly concise and precise. Like she channels ee cummings in verse, which I absolutely adore, being able to convey a lot of meaning in just a tiny tidbit.
wooden and alone
bjork's lyrics have weird imagery. that's good. it's really about her voice.

To be honest, I've never really had any problems with Tori lyrics. I think they're all brilliant and are easy to follow, especially when she leads with her senses. If you do the same, she'll follow. Like she says, she doesn't make brain records, she makes heart and sense records. So use them to navigate instead of always listening for a literal line to be fed to you. It's just like any memory you have. Is it exactly navigated in your head? Can't you pull out any of the senses? The smells, the feelings, the tastes. Dimension. She'd be boring if she didn't have that.

i don't like lines being fed to me, but i also don't want to have to use a decoder ring to discern what the artist is saying either. i think an artist can be straightfoward without totally giving it all away. right now i am listening to the painted dseset by 10,000 maniacs and it's a good example of a song that tells you what it's about without feeding it to you. it crates a narrative and draws this amazing vista without actually spelling it all out. tori's got some really good lyrics sometimes, but they are hard to figure out.
wooden and alone
i kind of agree. i think somewhere along the way, tori got sidetracked and lost all sense of reality and started babbling. lulz.
i have no idea what the hell she is singing about.
but it sounds pretty so what.
but you know what, her delivery is indecipherable anyway so it doesn't matter.
dunno.

datura's an excellent of what you just said about tori. lyrics and singing. still like her a lot.
LightYears
I love Datura. That's one of her most uncomplicated songs.

Get the fuck out of my garden.

i'm not sure about that. all she's doing is naming herbs and then saying get the fuck out of my garden. uh, ok lunatic. what the hell?
LightYears
there's no fuck in the lyric though. Anyway,

The names of the flowers are the ones allowed permission to enter the garden. In Venus, the garden decides who stays, not the patriarchal god who in the bible says to eve she has to leave. The whole record parallels the bible. Think of how the record opens with "Father, I killed my monkey" instead "Father, who art in heaven".

In effect, except from the structure musically (the piano acting as the electric guitar in the song), it's one of her simplest songs.
we left yesterday
sounds compilcated to me, but then i dumber than u.s. president. i like what she's saying though and appreciate the song more now with that explaination. doesn't mean i'll listen to it though. laugh.gif
