Ok, I decided this forum was seeing too many movies and not reading enough books. Books are really fun. Just as good as films. And we're all intelligent people. So what book have you read recently?

I just finished "House of sand and fog." again, it was very good. I like the switching in naration.

I'm about to start "Rebecca", and some more Daphne De Maure books. I really liked "The birds." And I want to read her book "Jamaica Inn" 'Cause of the Tori song.

I read Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris. It rocked, but I prefer to watch the movie.

Noooo! I love that book so much more than the movie.

However, Hannibal..omg I hate that book. It was REALLY good, and then the narrator started talking to the reader in the last chapter, and I couldn't believe the ending. In the book, Clarice runs off with Hannibal, and they change their names. I found that really out of character. I actually prefered the film ending.
Suke
Yeah the book really was great, but there is something about seeing it.... The movie just does it for me. Now I need to read Hannibal and Red Dragon, but I hear they are both lame.

I like red dragon.

I hate Hannibal 'cause I loved it so much till the last few chapters.

That's the same with another book "The lovely bones." Buy it, read half, and then pretend it's ended, and it will seem really clever and well-written. smile.gif
Harmonica Man
I didnt like the last chapters in Hannibal either
zrog
Red Dragon is the best of all of the books! You have to consider that it was written in the early 80's before all this CSI crap. "The Silence of the Lambs" is good and Hannibal was just horrible. The movie sucked too.
Suke
I'll try to stop by the library soon and get them both.

biggrin.gif cool.gif You are dead right!!!! I read the novelization of Dead Poet's Society with Robbin Williams..........for the 10th time and I freak out over it every time I read it!!!! laugh.gif laugh.gif Oh...I saw the movie 7 times!!!!
Carpe Diem!!!!!!!!

The Giver. We were reading it at the end of the year at school and we never finished it, so I got it and finished it about 3 weeks ago. Great book.

Aw, I only like Steinback's Of Mice and Men. Is East of Eden the one which has endless chapters about dust fields and bored me to death? Hm, I could have sworn that book had a fruits name in. Anyone know which steinback it is?
undrum
The Grapes of Wrath, babe.

East of Eden ain't either of those. It's WAY better.

They made a movie of part of it (same title)
with James Dean playing Cal.

Fine, Babe.

Do you like Grapes of Wrath? It's so boring. sad.gif

Sorry to offend.

I'll cut out the "babe" thing, just a bad habit.

I never got through "grapes"--- I agree with your assessment- it's boring.

Mice & Men is good, but, really, East of Eden is really great.

Sorry again for the misunderstanding over the "babe" thing.

That cracks me up --- thanks for
clearing that up.

I once knew a couple of guys who picked up
some "chicks" in a "seedier" part of town, and
only realized AFTER the "festivites" began that
they were dealing with guys.

Of course, the little exchange above is in
no way comparable, but it did bring back the memory
of that funny story.

I've GOT to get better at this sh*t.

Haha, No it was a cool story all the same. smile.gif

I just finished "Mrs Dalloway" again.

I love Virginia Woolf so much! How anyone can write such an amazing book from such a simple story. I loved it lots, and I cried. And I still think the ending is the most satisfying ending to a book I have ever read.

How could anyone not love Virginia Woolf?

It's not my usual scene. Lately I've been ready lots of drama, but I normally go for crime, gothic horror and depressing books. smile.gif

I just read Tori Amos' The Scarlet's walk tourbook. How purdy! Makes the story seem so much more real. smile.gif

So I finally got around to reading Hannibal... and I have to say I like the way the book was more in depth, but I was not satisfied with Mason's death. Or the ending.

I loved a lot of the book. Till the stupid ending and when the naration started talking to you.
Suke
The idea of him getting her under his wing just pissed me off I prefer the cuffs and knife ending and Mason's death in the movie was better
LightYears
I didn't like the brain bit in the film.

It was like "How stupid."

I prefered it's depth to the other books. But I prefered the naration of Red Dragon. But as a whole, Silence of the lambs is the best. It's more consistent and entertaining.
Suke
I am reading Red Dragon as of today.
LightYears
Cool.

I just finished "Taking lives." I prefered the films approach but the book explained it a lot better 'cause there's a whole other story the film didn't look at.

It was one of those films where they borrow a concept from a book and re-invent it, like with the film "I robot."
Suke
well Ineed to see/read Red Dragon but Iheard it was lame
LightYears
There are too films.

The original Red Dragon which was called "Manhunter" which didn't have Antony Hopkins in.

Or the new version.

I liked both. But the original was a bit more intresting.
Harmonica Man
I prefer the original too

theyre good films
LightYears
Yay someone who's seen the original *hugs*

I just thought it was intresting to see someone who wasn't Antony Hopkins as Hannibal. In red dragon, I always think Hannibal is at a more angry time in his life and Antony Hopkins can't do angry,
Suke
I saw a bit of the original.
Harmonica Man
you only saw a 'bit'

ive seen the whole thing! biggrin.gif
Suke
well I didn't know it had to do with Hannibal, but my dad watched it.
LightYears
Suke, am I scaring you on MSN?
I'm just joking.
What's going on?
Suke

Harmonica Man
LOL
LightYears
I am settled now.
Suke

LightYears
You're ignoring me.
Suke

Harmonica Man
