does anyone have a tabbed out version of shane?
trampolinefromspace
I'll ask Jamie next time I IM her.

I'm going to go ahead and say that no one knows how to play this song. The tablature for it in the Whip-smart tab book by Hal Leonard is also wrong. You're S.O.L., asspony.
asspony
Hmm... don't suppose you'd post the version in the whip smart book? This song is one of my favorites--sounds so simple, but actually very hard to get right. Is it possible that Liz is the only person in the world that can play it?

I'd guess that not even she remembers how to play it given how little she remembers. But! I think I remember that at some point on the Somebody's Miracle tour she tried to play it. For a manager or something? Maybe I'm wrong. Anywho, I've actually been trying to figure it out myself - I made a little bit of progress with something that sounds sort of like the opening chords of the Girlysound version but its definitely not very accurate. It'd be fun if anyone wants to take a stab at it either here or on the Girlysound forums, but that would probably go the way of "Nashville" in 2 days flat.

Alright, here's my take...

Hope it isn't too messy or inaccurate. Tell me what you think, or if you spot anything fishy...
JeremyEngle
Wow. That's really impressive. How did you figure it out? I just played through on my electric guitar; sounded great. There's some spots that I'm unsure of, but that's mainly a timing issue on my part.

Liz at her jazzy best. I hope she reads this and adds it to her repertoire.

Thanks for the tabs!

PS Who was it that posted the Easy tab awhile ago? Tried the song today, it's a really accurate tab! Thanks.

I just posted a revised version of the tab in my original post; there was a part I forgot to add, and I also made some minor alterations.

Thanks. As for how I figured it out, it was just a lot of listening and trial and error... I didn't have a clue as to how anything in the song is played so it took me quite a while to get the intro. I soon figured out that the song is played in the key of G with a lot of open strings and it got easier from there.

I did that one too. Glad you like it.

another perfect tab! golly. thanks for sharing biggrin.gif
asspony
Yeah, that's pretty god damn well done.

But I think maybe the "post chorus" is a bit off... maybe it's just me. But I've been playing it like this:

e |-0--0--0--0----|
B |-3--3--3--0----|
G |-0--0--2--2/3--|
D |-0--0--0--0----|
A |-3--2--0--x----|
E |-3--2--2--x----|

Jamie
that's so funny i just finished that tab, it's like the same, why don't people tell me when they do this so i don't work my ass off for nothing! good job though!
folderol and
asspony, that is the right way to play it; I made a mistake there.

Also, the frets for the capo is inverted; the capo is on the first fret for the Whip-Smart version and on the second fret for the Girly Sound version.

Sorry about beating you to it, Jamie. And thanks for your comments, everyone.

So I'm suddenly interested in learning "Shane" now, but the file that had the tab on it has been expired. Any chance someone could repost it?

That is yet another reminder that I need to get my ass in gear and work up some prototype guitar tab pages for girlysound.com.

We've been having a discussion about pulling some of the collected guitar tabs from here and girlysound forum and placing them on the main site. I need to throw up some prototype pages on my own site and get feedback so that we can have a centralized place to host them.

We need to have a central repository for guitar tabs for Liz songs.

That'd be really nice.

Ok, I made my first start.

Here is the main page:
http://www.geocities.com/halfcenturyprojec...tabs/index.html

I posted the initial page and the version of Shane as posted by "folderol and".

I'm going to start to add some more pages for more songs. Eventually, I want to organize the songs both alphabetically and by album. Initially, I'll just use a sorted bulleted list with song titles.

I want the repository to end up on GirlySound, but we might get it mirrored on another website. I may eventually create a specific site just for the guitar tabs instead of using a portion of my halfcenturyproject as a home for these pages.
