Tori Amos - Bells for her, and the live venus version.

That song's been haunting me a while.

i love that song. is it true she has to remember how to play it because it came to her spontaneously. you never listen to anything else but tori and heather, huh. laugh.gif

juliana hatfield - slow motion
I think in slow motion
I move in slow motion
Through the smoke
I hear a sound
Through the music
From my brain
To my mouth

When I turn to look at you
With an answer
You have gone
From the room

Like this vodka and cranberry
I drop it eventually
It breaks in slow motion

Yeah, they managed to tape it because she was messing about in the studio. Then she had to learn it afterwoods to be able to play it on tour.

I do listen to other artists, aside Heather and Tori, but they are my favourites. So it's fine smile.gif

I brought 4 cds in to work yesterday, they were: Somebodys Miracle, The Beekeeper, Who We Are Instead and Pawn Shoppe Heart.
I listened to them all, but had to take Tori out. There is just something really annoying about that cd I do not know what it is exactly. Very been there done that.

Scarlet's walk is infinitely better.

I Would call that CD her worst since Strange Little Girls, although it is significantlty better than that album.

I'm starting to like the albums worst tracks much much better now.

Like "Cars and guitars" because it really isn't the cars and guitars that tear us apart. It's not that control that does it.

It's sort of like a song that makes a metaphor, and then says "But it's not the metaphor that's doing that, it's you relying on the metaphor".

I really do like that song.
I like it even more when I'm not listening to it laugh.gif

i can't. it's hard for me to get through a tori cd these days. i had the hardest time getting through from the choirgirl's hotel when i bought it. and i used to love that album. now i can't even stand to listen to it. the beekeeper though was the one tori amos cd that i could play a lot and not get tired. scarlet's walk is just ok. i've had it 3 times now. the firs 2 times i didn't like it and sold it. she used to be such a good popster but she lost it. the beekeeper brings back some of the pop in her music.

I don't think she was a pop artist, and I prefer it when she isn't.
I think she's closest to being a classical artist. (Definatly a classical composer). But I usually say Piano Rock.
QuieroPhair
I like it as she movies away from adult contemp. pop. (aka beekeeper)

The pop from Choirgirl is so much better: pasionate, dark, soaked with melodrama.

I love that album alot.

no light, she's pop. not in the ashlee/brittney way, but definitely pop. intelligent pop even. listen to cornflake girl and don't tell me you don't start tapping your feet and humming along. cornflake girl is a great pop song. most of the artists that we listen to are pop, but there not always in that conventional way.

No, Cornflake girl is pure Jazz. It's bass line is pure Jazz. It's inspired by old jazz, and you can feel it.

If you were going to say her poppiest song, you'd have been better saying something like "Sleeps with butterflies" or "Crucify" or something.

she's pop. pop is not a bad word. and it's such a broad term. she's written pop songs and she's filed under pop in most playlists. tori is poop, wait, pop.

there is nothing jazzy about cornflake girl. cornflake girl is straight ahead alternapop. now the wrong band is jazzy but not cornflake girl. try listening to the new bo's or edie for some real jazz. or harry connick jr. not tori. not in cornflake girl. that is one great pop song. what is so bad about pop. everything i listen to is pop in some form or another.

I don't agree.

Popular culture these days is generally low culture, I don't want to associate low culture with Tori. The majoritiy of people around here don't listen to her. So she's not popular, which means it's not pop music. Maybe it was pop music in 1994 in america. But I don't think so.
we left yesterday
tori has always been pop music in some form. she's more popular than you think. or was anyway. her first album went double platnium, her second one went platnium, and the 3 and 4 cd's debuted in the top 5 spot. for an artist who isn't popular she sure did score high on the charts. her boys for pele entered in the top 3 i believe. i think it's safe to say that's pop. i really don't get your aversion to pop. most of what you listen is pop and is listed in the pop/rock sections at record stores.

there is nothing wrong with pop. of course there is bad pop, but there is also bad alternative, bad country, etc. pop is not just "low culture". there seems to be some real hate towards pop. as for tori anyway, she's morphed now into the territory that liz is in now. tori has become adult alternative and adult comtemporary. her stuff gets played on vh1 now, the home to adult comtemporary music. sorry to say this but if tori wasn't popular and a fairly big pop act she still wouldn't have a record contract.

To be honest, I just rate stuff and order stuff in it's quality. And since most bad music is in pop, I can overuse that term. But I shouldn't. It's just habbit.

If I rate it though, on quality, Tori and Liz, where they are right now. Tori kicks Liz into the dirt.

I think most of what I listen to isn't pop, actually.
I mean, who do you think I like musically? You only know, say, 5 artists I like?
we left yesterday
yes, but most artists you listen to are pop. as are our mine. you'll find them in the pop/rock section. remember pop is broad term and can encompass a lot of stuff. pop is shorthand for popular.
LightYears

You say that, but when I go in record shops, I usually browse the "Metal" section and the "Folk" and "World" music sections first.
we left yesterday
it's still all part of the pop tag. remember metal once was the most popular form of music out there. and there are plenty of folk artists who are popular. woody gutherie, ani difranco, and suzanne vega come to mind. who's to say that world music isn't popular in that particular music's country?
LightYears
Pop implies it is released into the mainsteam, and it's big and lots of people take to it.

Generalising only happens because people are lazy to take things as they are. But where I am, my favourite artists are not popular. But where you are, they might be. But we're not in the same place, so for me, they're not popular.

And in Heather's case, she's not popular in America, and around here, I don't know anyone who knows her.
