Aimee Mann- Lost in Space
Aimee Mann- I'm With Stupid
Cat Power- Moon Pix

I'm surprised you don't have songs and 11:11 by Regina Spektor. Because aren't all the songs on Mary Ann Meets the Gravediggers from 11:11 and Songs? Or maybe you do have them, and you just prefer Mary Ann Meets the Gravediggers.

I think a majority of them are, Marci (and, yes, have them both-also parts of SKitsch are also on Mary Ann, too)-I like how "Mary Ann" album is styled & the wonderful art & drawings. I actually LOVE the cd single to "Us" with the beautiful "Scarecrow & Fungus," which is one of my very fav Regina songs. I just <heart> Regina period. As you can tell, for a newer artist, she crept up pretty quick into my hierarchy of favorite divas...smile.gif
These 2 lists I made are just composed of albums I have just loved & seem to play endlessly-I love most things by the artists I mentioned on these lists-the ones mentioned just seem to be the ones I play with most frequency.

I agree. The industry is trying to fuck over people who wear hats. We've been turning a blind eye to this for TOO long. It's time we rise up and do something about this grave injustice.

Cherub's Ass
My list changes a lot, but it's been like this for quite a while now:

1. Tori Amos - To Venus and Back

My favorite album by anyone, and yet most Tori fans dislike it or think it's ok, which is a shame, because it's such a dark electronic masterpiece. The production is perfect, the songwriting might not be her most consistently great, but the songs just work so well. This is probably the most calm she's ever sounded on an album, although that doesn't mean she doesn't showcase her powerful voice still, just differently. Listening to this album is just a thrill ride, except for the last song, 1000 Oceans, which is sappy.

2. Kate Bush - Hounds of Love

Yes the first five songs are amazing. Simply amazing. But then this lady has to go and make the most amazing concept album of all time on the second half. WOW! So special.

3. Massive Attack - Mezzanine

Soulful, meditative, terrifying, beautiful, relaxing, invigorating... this album plays to all the senses, bigtime.

4. Liz Phair - Whip-Smart

While I pretty much like Exile in Guyville equally to Whip-Smart, Whip-Smart just works a lot better as an album. A really great start-to-finish album by my favorite lyricist.

5. Imani Coppola - The Black & White Album

Ridiculously fun and strange, and while there is a lot of experimentation, the quality remains utterly consistent throughout. Very, very fun.

6. Siobhan Donaghy - Ghosts

Siobhan really made my favorite pop album. While it's not my favorite album, it's certainly the one I have listened to the most. The excellence is sustained throughout.

7. Björk - Homogenic

Incredibly emotional

8. MIA - Kala

She had a very good debut, but it wasn't something you'd listen to often. With her second album, MIA managed to make something of incredible quality and something you want to put on repeat listens. Listening to this album is really unlike any other, it takes you around the world.

9. Tori Amos - Scarlet's Walk

While there are certain songs that stand out, for the most part this album doesn't have necessarily my favorite songs by Tori. Initially I found it boring. But the sheer power of the combination of the 18 tracks is breathtaking, takes you on such a journey. My second favorite concept album (second to Hounds of Love, of course).

10. Tori Amos - From the Choirgirl Hotel

Strangely enough, this one didn't click with me until recently. But I must say, it's a spectacular album that really hits hard. Very dense and emotional, her emotions run a lot freer on this album than on To Venus and Back, where she restrains herself, so I'm not always in the mood for it. But when I am, it's just grand.

1. MIA- Kala
Even though the media praised this album everywhere and Paper Planes got huge about six-seven months after its release, its a crime that this record was virtually ignored by the public, and those that do know about it only gravitated towards Paper Planes. Its not even the best song on the album, and it always puzzled me that the track caught on like it did when Jimmy was clearly the song on the album meant for mainstream success. Paper Planes was merely an afterthought released when the album failed to connect with the masses after the Boyz and Jimmy singles, and Pineapple Express sent the track into the stratosphere.

The album has no weaknesses. From a production standpoint, it is simply flawless. Switch should be drowning in awards.

Oh, and the drums on Bird Flu(and other tracks) are fucking insane. I can see why she always tours with a DJ and cant use a real band because these songs are just so complex, layered, and in certain places groundbreaking and most of it could never be replicated live.

She set the bar way too high. Cant even imagine the pressure while recording the follow up.
WHORE
I KNOW I TOTALLY AGREE!!! EVen though this will be one of my favorite fucking albums of all time!. Im surprised that boyz didnt even make it on the radio mainstream play
