The Cranberries might make the same song thousands of times over but oh my god, her solo stuff is fucking excellent!
Two new songs were previewed on radio 101 and they are amazing, especially "When We Were Young". That chorus will forever be in my head.
Waiting for this record with huge expectations.

I'll be buying it, if only to remind myself how damn pretty Dolores is.
The only problem I have with her is that her use of rhyming schemes in Cranberries songs (following the first album) bordered on irritating. This is especially evident in the not-good-at-all Wake Up and Smell the Coffee.
I hope her solo makes up for how derivative the Cranberries ended up being after their first album.

I'm excited about the solo album. Though I have heard clips of some of the songs that are supposedly going to be on the album, I am interested to see/hear what direction she will be going in, considering she was the sole writer for about half of the cranberries songs...

So I downloaded this album now that it leaked and I have to say - it's fucking amazing.
I will most certainly be buying the album, I really love it. Harder, Faster, Better than anything the Cranberries have ever done, in my opinion. The song from the cranberries that would most fit on here would probably be "Zombie".

Ironic considering Zombie is one of the few songs that stands out from that slow-tempo blur of the rest of their collection.

I saw this album for the first time in the HMV (did I get this right?) in Gatwick airport on my trip over to Italy.
I'll probably look for it in the stores over here.

it's not her best effort. check out the debut by the cranberries, talk about euphoric rock music. "linger" with its strings and the creepy "pretty", it has so many great songs. they turned a bit shit after this album but whatever.
oh and dolores performed in leno and she didn't measure up to the greatness of her voice, sounded shaky which she has always sounded but eh. leno makes everyone shitty. fuckin leno, big chinned asshole.

I feel less inclined to buy this album now that I've had it downloaded for some time.
Red was right when he described it as being "annoyingly pleasant".
Half of the songs I still think are "fucking amazing" though.

don't forget the crappy lyrics as well. "It's so thought provoking, emotion evoking..."
I know you think SM is just as bad lyrically as Are you Listening is but even the umbrella line is better than the example i gave.

i've only given it one listen and not the best listen either. still i am pleased with it so far. i think it's nothing like her cranberries work at all. it's got its low points, but i am overall pleased so far. only time will tell if that actually holds true for me, but at this moment i am liking what i have heard. far better than what is trying to be passed off as music today. then again i'm not with it with the young and the "hip". whatever that means.

it is a good album. and lyrics aren't everything. if that were the case then i don't think r.e.m. would've ever made it out of athens with they wrote during the i.r.s. years. most of it was so incomprehensible and silly (what you could make out) that it was impossible to focus on the lyrics at all. i need to dig the are you listening out and play it again.

i just wish it was softer. i really love dolores' voice when it's singing a ballad. against the guitars which sound a bit nineties, her voices takes on a hollering turn and i just don't like that.

It's a really average album. Sonically, it's pleasing but most of the lyrics are just really.... crap. This isn't a new discovery since her writing has declined since the cranberries' later albums.

i wish her voice was paired with memorable melodies and lush instrumentation. i really thought it was a production misstep at work here. i hate the big guitars. her voice is so angelic and weird that it needs some warm strings and heavenly harmonies, much like the debut of the cranberries.

No I disagree. She's better when the arrangements have got some fire and kick. The softer songs have nothing to deter from the short comings in the lyrics.

I think Ilike Dolores' new album much better than some folk seem to-I agree the sound is much more 80's & 90's, BUT, in honesty, I love the sound from the period & rather miss it. It's so funny, I did really like the Cranberries the first time around, but I never ranked them or her as up there with Kate or Siouxise or Tori or Liz! In retrospect, I love listening the Cranberries now-they had some wonderful songs that still sound so fresh now.
