I still like Slash more than Buckethead, for a couple reasons. I think a lot of the time Buckethead just plays quickly, and I feel like it lacks style much of the time. Sometimes it just sounds like guitar excersizes like he's putting on a speed clinic. I think Slash, though maybe not technically superior to Buckethead, certainly plays with style and really feels his music.
Basically I have a thing against all shredders.
The "Buckethead is a freak who shreds" thing is a cliche. I'm on dialup, but when I'm at someone's house who has high speed, I'll upload the albums Electric Tears and Colma for you. There is no shredding on these albums. These two albums have some of the most beautiful instrumentals you will ever hear in your life.
I prefer his slower music to the shredding, but he does all types of things on guitar that no one else could do. On the GNR song 'Better', he does this thing that leads the transition into the metal jam, and nobody else could ever do that. Bumblefoot replaced him in GNR, and he wont even try to do it. Instead of that noise BH does, when GNR performs the song live, they pound the drums in that spot instead.
