Opera is brilliant. Opera singers have the strongest voices in the world period. I do not listen to much opera, but I love it when Opera loses a great singer to more mainstream music ala Charlotte Martin or Rufus.

By purposeful pop I mean he is doing it on purpose. He is making a pop record with no fronts about it.

yeah, i figured that is what you meant by purposeful pop. i just not sure i see it. not with songs like between my legs and releasing going to a town as the first single. a song with lines about how he hates america and is sick of it isn't probably the best choice for a pop song on the radio. i understand where you are coming from, but it's hard to see when rufus is still being his biting old self.

I think it's the perfect choice. That's so in fashion these days.

But the bomb of the season is a Velvet Revolution.

You'll buy it, and I will buy it. We can be Rufus twins. I love Poses. And Want One. Those are my two favorite Rufus record; this one is purposeful pop, but I hope he does not lose his operatics.

I'd say his debut has some of my favorite songs (Foolish Love, Danny Boy, April Fools, In My Arms, Imaginary Love)
But my favorite album is probably Want One, it is his most consistent I'd say. The other two are great too.

I don't have a job and I'm running out of xmas + bday money.
Ever since I started buying CDs, I'm running out of money quickly.
I guess I should make a priority list with the CDs I want most.
Hmm.
1. Tori Amos - American Doll Posse
2. Siobhan Donaghy - Ghosts
3. Siobhan Donaghy - Revolution in Me
4. MIA - Kala
5. Imani Coppola - Black & White Album (lower priority because I already own the disc digitally)
6. Rufus

So after I've gotten all those, and I still have enough money, we'll see. When does it come out?
LightYears
It's an amazing album, Whore, isn't it?

I've pre-ordered the Limited Edition, and I'll be going into town on the day to buy the Normal Edition.

I've been playing the album madly the last week or two.

Are they going to have the limited editions as well at the stores? or just pre-ordered only?
LightYears
Yeah, I'm pretty sure both versions are going to be in stores.
QuieroPhair
I'd skip Donaghy's first record, I heard it was kinda rubbish.

in biggger market cities like new york and la, but that kind of sentiment won't fly in middle america. the majority of americans aren't going to warm up to a song that attacks amercai so blatently. we still think we're the greatest nation after all. i do ageee that it's in fashion, but only with a select few. americans, by and large, are still pro america and all that.

Lucie Silvas - Place To Hide
I like watching her play piano. She's so gentle, like stroking a kitten.

Lucie Silvas - Nothing Else Matters (Metalica cover)
This is an anthem. I love her cover, the way she's arranged it on piano is fantastic, haunting.

Almost 14. He'll be 14 next month. I guess I'll have to wish him a happy birthday early, because I'll be out of the country.

Imani Coppola...
The Black & White Album is amazing.
And now I like Post Traumatic Pop Syndrome, it's so laid back.

a 15 year old being more mature than a 14 year old? that's rich! but i guess i don't think that most teenagers are mature. hard to be at that age usually.

It was a joke. I guess I should have put a smiley face. smile.gif I agree. There's not much difference between a 14 year old and a 15 year old.

Oh, you're so young, just a teenager! Just kidding, I just checked your profile to see how old you were and I'm only like almost exactly 8 months older than you.

As for blair, I don't know. We have 2 choices: we could hope he responds OR we could go through all 6 million of his aliases and see if he put his DOB on any of them. I think we're better off hoping that he responds.
wooden and alone
lol. i'm turning 24. so no, i am not a teen. i am a pedo.

"I'm not the one you wanted."

That cry reminds me of when Liz says "green" in the original version of "Red Light Fever" and when Liz sings in "Polyester Bride".

The Hot Rock is my favorite... and sadly, I like their last album too.

i am so turning 24 this july.

and i too like the last album. jumpers is a great song. if only they decided to end their career on a happier note. albini's production sucked the vibrance out of their songs. the woods is so dark and heavy.

If I remember correctly, the birthday is 7/23.

And yes, there will be notice of it on this board. Of course, this should be a good thing, because we all love W&A.

Former singer/guitarist for the fabulous New England garage group the Oscillators, Miss Mary has been compared to Holly Golightly, Death by Chocolate, Dressy Bessy, April March, and even Jonathan Richman.

Mixing stripped-down 60s pop with a garage-rock attitude, her solo debut album, Hey Blue! (check it out and/or buy it), had indie kids whistling from Indiana to Indonesia. On Ready 2 Pop, Miss Mary has again teamed up with NYC producer/composer (and former Oscillator) Joel Mellin, for a big bad rock and roll record that growls with grit and bristles with electric intensity. From the opening guitar driven rockers “The One” and “My Friend” to the shoegazer noisepop of “I Don’t Mind (If You Stay Over),” Miss Mary brandishes the razor edge she’s sharpened rocking clubs from Londonderry to London. But she shines just as brightly on the ballads “Dreaming of You” and the stunning “Ordinary, All the Same."

dubstar

Dubstar was a successful British dance-pop band, formed in 1993 by Sarah Blackwood, Steve Hillier and Chris Wilkie, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. After initially disbanding in 2000, recent reports indicate Dubstar may be reforming for a new album in 2007.

Cranes

Cranes are a British band, often described as gothic rock, Dream Pop or shoegazers. Formed in the mid 1980s in Portsmouth, England, they are best known for the soft, high-pitched vocals of lead singer Alison Shaw, memorably likened by the NME to "a beautiful siren being slowly strangled on a spiral staircase of hammer-horror guitars".
