"things have been postponed. Earliest will be early 2010. Thanks for listening and reaching out"

personally, i think it's good for Liz to take more time to work on the album... if releasing it now means getting something that sounds like ding dong, spoiled peach and faith & tenderness, i rather wait. hopefully, she'll use the time to write new and better songs.

i wouldn't mind to see Whip-Smart reissued in the meantime, though... it's turning 15 next month.

Well at least I'll quit checking the net every day for some kind of news. She probably has to line up new management and as you said put together some better songs although songs in the vein of Spoiled Peach and Ding Dong would be alright with me.

HELL YES, now we're getting somewhere. I'm actually shocked that they finally got back to someone. Lucky you for the golden ticket response!!!

Now we just need an announcement on the 90210 soundtrack, to tide us over.

As for a Whip-Smart reissue with bonus materials... oh, HELL YES. I dug the EIG reissue, but don't listen to that album nearly as much as I do WS. As a matter of fact, I played it yesterday on my shift. Pretty sure Capitol owns the rights on that, at least according to the iTunes listing.

at least, it's not totally cancelled.

True...so - did ATO just announce this?
And - this soundtrack deal, that i saw someone post a release date for..is it confirmed liz is going to be ON the soundtrack?

at least that's SOMETHING to look forward to.

Well...maybe it was crap and shelved for a reason.
or - maybe it was COOL - and was shelved for a reason.

who's to say.

perhaps someone will throw us a bone and leak the demos?

I mean, no it (the soundtrack) hasn't been announced, but it's listed on Amazon. As for if she'd even make an appearance on it- I don't see how she could write the music for the show, premiere a new song on the show, and then get left off of that same show's soundtrack (although with her track record...).

Anyway, demos ala WCSE? Yes please!

Ditto! Any cryptic occasional posters care to leak anything? Or follow up on the demo song subscription service idea circa Liz Phair - Liz Phair?? That could be fairly lucrative if you ask me. $1 a song (or $15 a month?), through Liz's own website, no fees to her label or itunes? I think it's a great idea.
wooden and alone
does she even have her own website already? like something that ato set up themselves.
FearInYourHeart
I asked ATO if Spoiled Peach would be on the album and if it was finished. No reply yet but before I read this topic I emailed them asking the nearest time the album could be released and obviously it was the same answer Early 2010. But at least, ATO seems to be replying to emails about Liz now. ATO hasn't seemed to set up a site for Liz.

Would a WS or WCSE deluxe edition even sell enough for Capitol lift a finger? I've seen sealed copies of EIG cd/dvd selling new for $10. Must be lots of copies kicking around.
jackstpaul
I attach zero weight to what ATO or anyone but Liz says right now. Of course they'd eventually say something, and how vague can you get? The past 15 months have been bizarre. As far as a re-issue goes, the EIG Redux didn't sell many at all. If that couldn't do good busienss, none of the rest will.

WTF.

I always suspect with some of these episodes in her career that Liz is suffering--dearly--in her personal life with stuff like this; that it's not being driven by the music-making itself. I'm worried about her.
wooden and alone
i dunno. i don't think she's suffering or anything. i think she's perfectly fine. that's why she's not making music, maybe. she doesn't need to exorcise her demons or anything.

she's not like juliana. i don't think she was ever anorexic or depressed or suicidal. the lowest she probably has been is bored as fuck pre-guyville days.
lol

That’s a good point. As Courtney Love once said “Liz, call me when you have just one bad day.”

Looks like this board is going bye bye, huh? Or am I the only one who can no longer see the other topics?

i think it all boils down to this: Hits.
She never TRIED to make a hit album w/ Guyville. So it was honest.
it was fluke that it sold. it went viral. we love it. but it was fluke. everything about it was fluke. the masses won't love it. since day one - back when i was in high school - my friends said: "She can't sing."
we know different...but...that's the thing. It's a small group who like liz. she's not a unit mover or a cash cow.
she has a devoted group of fans - who, despite the bitching and complaining - are exactly that: Devoted.

this sucks because i think liz - toa point - IS in it for the money. to a point. oh she's an artist and a writer and a great guitar player and a perfectly fine singer...if not a genius song-writer...but - that's the thing. business-minded folks try to take the "genius" and sell it - make money - buy pimping it to the masses.
the trick isn't MAKING 1 million dollars. it's getting 1 million people to EACH give you just ONE dollar.
take the little thing and make it huge.
except...there aren't a million people willing to give her one dollar.
(insert avril lavigne gloves and the matrix here)

i'm no longer bitter or angry. i was. how i see it - liz put out enough great songs, that still make the rounds on my mp3 player today. i can ignore the shit. why fight about it?
be nice to see a new album. but if she's not into it, the label's not into it - or politics have tied too much red tape around it - fuck it! why bother.
let's put this into persective here.
It's not Paul Rogers and Queen - putting out a new album.
IT's not the archived and unreleased recordings of Michael Jackson.
It's Liz Phair.
a singer song writer.
Does she have material for an album - or not?
Does the record company trust her or back her creatively - or do they wanna fuck with it and ruin it to make a bigger buck?
and the real question:
Does she have any more decent songs in her?
If not - no biggie.
If yes - put the fuckin' album out.

1 chick. 1 guitar. what's the problem?

but...screw it.

not to get all nostalgic - but - i gotta say one thing right here right now:

THe fans kept me going all these years. really.
i've been on a liz phair list since...1996? 1997? Jase Long's list. Support System. Then the 6'1" Digest. i forget which came first.
i was on newsgroups...message boards...tape trees...
had some serious arguments (usually due to me being a big yapper) - but made some friends too.

the conversations are always bang on. they're great. seeing eye to eye. seeing a wee bit of yourself in someone else's love for liz.
discovering new music through like-minded fans.
it's pretty cool.

i was a teenager when i started out on this list. 18 years old, i think. a kid.
32 years old now. that's a long frickin' time.

Jase - it was great seeing you at that Breeders show the other night. i do believe - the very FIRST TIME i ever sat down on this "new thing" called "the internet" and typed in the name "Liz Phair" in "INFOSEEK" - (there was no such thing as googling something) - his name came up.

Ken Lee, Jeremy Engle..if you are who i think you are...hahaha..from the old school list days...it's cool seeing the same people around for so long.
that's something that NO record company can predict or create. it's a buzz that is far deeper than commercialism.
its TRUE dedication.

Liz has that. Or maybe...WE - her fans - have that.

(you can all puke now!)

dan.
FearInYourHeart
im still curious on what style she'll do this time. she's jumped from indie rock to a poppier sound to shiny sleek pop-rock to country-tinged AAA crap. She could do a disco album for all i care! As long as she starts being smart again and makes some pop hooks that actually take time to soak in like the ones on Guyville,Whip-Smart, and Spaceegg then i'll buy it. All i want is good music again not just limited to indie music as much i love her indie records.
