Full Version: Another Bad Sign??

I was just looking around the web to try and find ANYTHING regarding what's going on with Liz and the new album and found what may be some further distressing news regarding Liz. She is no longer with A Squared Management. She was listed on their MySpace page and website as one of their clients but she is no longer on the roster. Did they drop her, or did she drop them?? All I know is that she has been with them for several years and that this may be a sign of further turmoil in Liz's career. Maybe she dropped them because they haven't been doing shit for her professionally. Since the Exile tour the only thing we have heard from her is the BR shit and her TV soundtrack writing. I believe this parting with her management has delayed the release of the album. Without management, who does the tour, the promotions, etc.... Maybe a worse case scenario is she is done, she's retired and has no need for a management firm anymore. I still hold out hope for Liz, the new album, and her career, but I'm concerned that we may have seen the last of Liz for a long time. I hate coming on here and posting such gloomy news all the time, but one cannot deny the signs. These types of events cannot be good for her career. No one is pulling for a huge, successful, dramatic comeback for Liz more than I am. I'm just being realistic here and trying, like everyone else on this forum, to make some sense of WTF is going on!! I DO HOPE I am wrong with my conclusions on her management breakup but I'm sorry to say I'm not hugely optimistic.

ditto. but it makes sense. i figured something was up - either w/ the label or management. it just seemed "off".
So much building buzz so early on...and then: Silence.
Odd though, that this comes JUST after the release of a wee bit of new material w/ the Banana Republic stuff.
I kind of thought that was the first little bit of rapid fire of bigger things to come.
Very odd.
This also explains the no-answer from ATO. Something is going on.
If all was peachy - they would at LEAST humour us with a little: "All is going according to plan...expect some new liz in the near future - TBA!" - some kind of bullshit just to say: "Don't worry..it's coming...be patient.."
but we don't even have THAT.

I hope I'm wrong too...but - i have a feeling it will be a "a little while".
Frustrating. Wow...when you look at her entire career...it seems to be a huge, complicated series of hurdles - artistic and industry related. From stage-fright to mis-management.

I'm rooting for her too! I think we all are.

Fingers crossed.

i really don't know anything about these things... is management necessary to release an album? even for a signed artist on a record label?
like i said, i don't know, but i don't think so.
something else must be going on...liz has been working on the album since, at least, march 2008. anyone would think that by now she has something finished. even without a manager, she would've put out something.
i really think it's a musical problem. her new stuff is no good enough.. for her, or ato or whoever. but i do believe that's the issue here.

I really don't know how all this stuff works either. I too am worried the new material isn't up to snuff. I worry that she's blown her budget and the label won't fork over any more money for her to record on trying to improve the product. That's where no management may come into play. She has no one representing her when addressing the label concerning more funds?? I also think that without management no tour dates or appearances are booked, promotions do take a hit ( no one to coordinate things for her with the label), all the money concerns and negotiations aren't addressed, etc... Maybe she doesn't actually need management to release the new album, but the label is going to want a tour and TV appearances and so forth and without management that probably doesn't happen. I think there may also be some personal issues going on also. Not sure what, just have a hunch. Anyway you look at it, she's experiencing professional and possibly musical problems at the moment. This can't be a good thing. I also agree with Dan, Liz has had to jump through so many hoops professionally which in turn have caused such long delays between albums. Matador "sells" her to Capitol. Methinks she might be a difficult lady to work with?? She tries for a couple of years to legally get off of Capitol, that fails. She drops her previous manager because of a romantic break-up with him. The soap opera goes on and on with more examples, or maybe " sometimes she is just too tired" laugh.gif

Well, she still is listed as an artist on ATO's website, and the update it quite a bit, and take of artists who are no longer with them, so she still has a record label, for now. And that is always good.

Sit tight, maybe? I always enjoy taking a step back, looking at what I've had to wait (eons???) for and then being pretty (to a degree!) thrilled with the results.

Regardless, I'm always a sucker for back catalogs (does that get a hyphen?).

Maybe she just needs a new boyfriend/guitarist, from, like, oh, I don't know where, a, a, maybe, um, an American city that recently held a national political convention?
