Okay, last June - I went to one of the Exile in Guyville start-to-finish-live shows - I was lucky enough to go to the Chicago show ...
anyway, when liz played the song which is now known as "The Ding Dong Song" (dear lord i hope that's not the real title), she said "this is a new one...and my new album...well...you know, I'm not going to tell you how my new album is coming out because i came up with the idea and i think it's genius...."

anyone ever hear anything else about this? the genius marketing plan?

Fantasy sequence:

Maybe...she wants to throw us off by releasing Faith and Tenderness...make us all think she's sold out...and then surprise us...with the most lo-fi, genius record of all time?

Thoughts...? maybe...?

anyone else remember her saying something about this? the "genius" marketing plan...?

In all honesty, I don't think this is the case. And I don't think Faith & Tenderness is Liz's idea of a big pop song. She wouldn't have used the weird layered vocals that she was so excited about. And seriously, there are two maybe three guitar parts, synth and drums. I don't even hear the bass, but I haven't listened for it. There are no big drum fills either. This song was just engineered in pro-tools to sound bigger than it really is.

Edit: I think there's also a mellotron in there. Again, I don't think this is a bad song. It's not particularly memorable, but in the context of an album it could be. I remember when I first got wcse, I felt the same way about songs like Love is Nothing, Only Son, etc. NOT COMPARING FAITH & TENDERNESS TO THOSE SONGS (haha), but now I love them.

Who knows? Is the fact that Liz still doesn't even have an official website a part of the plan?

It would have been smarter to release the new album closer to the re-release of Guyville. This time last year Liz was getting a lot of positive critical attention.

Now all that momentum has died and we're left with a Banana Republic campaign and another song barely audible because of the dialogue of some 90210 kids?

who knows what liz thinks is "genius" anymore... i mean, she probably thought that matrix video she did last year was funny.

i think something must've been awfully wrong with the album if it's taking this long to complete. for my part, i rather wait another couple of years for something good than get a new release now with songs like faith and tenderness. i'm losing interest in liz's new music very quickly since that song showed up.

what i really would like to know is what happened with john henderson?? he appeard out of nowhere last year, teasing us with the third girlysound tape and those other apparently amazing rarities... and then nothing. am i the only one who's still waiting to hear from him again?

Dan, I feel like I just read the outline of a plot to kill JFK by a conspiracy theorist living in la la land. Not meant as offense.

We're all excited, but who the hell knows what she's up to.

IF it truly were "genius" it would be something groundbreaking, hence virtually impossible to imagine by total outsiders.

THE EIG thing marketing idea--to the extent it was marketing hype--was genius. Without it, we might never have heard of her.

You sound like you're thinking too much about this stuff. It'll come when it comes and it'll be what it is. We have little to go on right now.

I bet she'll release it on cassette to two dudes who will have to copy it for us on a tape tree, so the sound quality will be especially nice. And the production will consist of a four track and lots and lots of weed. It will be the most brilliant album ever and she will finally win all the grammys she deserves.
Oh, and the publicity will be all through photocopied zines.

But you forgot!!!
The truly "genius" part: Liz will save one of her GREATEST songs - an outtake from the already brilliant album - for a movie - a john singleton film - which just happens to mark Kristy Swanson and Jennifer Conelley's RETURN to the big screen!
Eve's Plum will reunite and contribute a new song to the film too. Tori Amos will not.

ANd then - we'll all be thrown for a loop -a strange loop indeed, because the third girlysound cassette will leak - and we'll be shocked and amazed to see the first three tracks were "Why can't I?", "Lost Tonight" and "Perfect Misfit".

"Dear GOD!" We'll say in unison. "It was all part of the plan!"

We'll shake our heads and laugh. Oh how we'll laugh.

She'll go on tour w/ Kathleen Hanna and Louise Post and peace will reign on earth.

ROTFLMAO Bravo to both of you.

Maybe the Genius Marketing is going to be an official release of the John Henderson tapes. Now that would be genius.

maybe you should stop twirling around so much. You're a veritable Big Tall Man... albeit with nice hips. On second thought, keep going.

Seriously, though, Henderson talked about a third tape. Twas a good while ago. Said he was looking for a tape player or something. I'm guessing that he got sidetracked. Either that, or some cloak & dagger bullshit.

It's just that I was away from the board for a while and I'm desperately trying to get back on the trax smile.gifsmile.gif. Thanx.
