The new album is out dont you have it? It rocks almost as hard as Breakout by Miley Cyrus. My fave track is itsy bitsy spider, that spider really did not see that water comming.
BlackZeppelin
Yeah, it's a good track. It really is kinda sad, though, because as much as it hurts the spider when the rain comes, it just keeps climbing up the spout again, trapped in a cycle of endless pain.
BB2
We aren't going to get any Liz news until next month when BR releases her City Stories song.
wooden and alone
the wait is deliciously painful. i just know it's gonna feel so good when it is finally released.

We are pretty close to the mid point of this year with no info at all about the album. Makes me laugh how hopefull I was it may be out by the end of last year.

Yes, indeed.

WTF?
DanMacDonald
I'm still holding my 2010 release date for the new album.
I thought it was a little harsh when i first made the prediction...but with ZERO news...I don't know. I'm starting to think it really might be that long.
4 years now since the last record...damn, i just feel like there's a lot riding on this one. and i don't want to hype it up. really - i just want something simple.
simple would be nice.
liz is best when the songs are simple.
of course - when i mean simple - i don't mean Rock Me or Extraordinary, though those are simple as well.
just "simple" in a different way.

*sigh*

With the new album having been nearly finished with a projected Fall 2008 release, then no news, then word that John Alagia and Jeff Trott were reworking it, I don't think simple is what we're going to get (unfortunately). The album Liz had been describing kind of sounded like the WCSE demos (which would have been AMAZING). She described heavily layered vocals and harmonies that weren't perfectly in time. Perhaps it was deemed "too weird" and ATO made her rerecord it in favor of something more straightforward? She has A LOT riding on this album. Could this be the fourth album of Liz's to have been rejected?

The fact that she said (in some interview, I can't remember where) that she wasn't letting producers any where near it, that she kept taking it away from them, makes me believe that it was, once again, rejected in favor of something more "normal". Maybe she should just start her own label.

I've always thought she should try to get on SuperEgo (Aimee Mann's label)
HWC
it kills me that spinsters like Bjork are on labels with secure, major distribution while someone like Liz could be discouraged from fully expressing her own unique niche as an artist by bloody minor indie imprints blink.gif rolleyes.gif
Predatory Instinct
This whole situation could be very similiar to Fionna Apple's difficulites with releasing "Extraordinary Machine" which her label rejected numerous times because the album wasn't in there minds "commercial enough". That album was delayed 2 or 3 years I believe before more producers were brought in to re-work the album yet another time. It was finally released to critical acclaim after all those delays in 2005. Maybe another explanation is Liz herself is delaying the release because of personal reasons??? Maybe, LOL, she's pregars with that new baby she's talked about having for years now?? Pregnant Liz = no support tour = release delay. Her biological clock is ticking! laugh.gif Just a crazy ass thought.

That or join United Musicians (Aimee Mann's indepedant artist "collective") and release independently.

"Liz Phair and members of her band arrive at PaleyFest09 presents a "Swingtown" Celebration at The Paley Center For Media on April 24, 2009 in Beverly Hills, California."

she's alive and looking great, that much we know. but "members of her band"?? most likely the guys that did the score for the show with her.

Here are some pictures from that swingtown event thing.
XRay
Yeah she's looooooking goooood!! Now that we know you're alive Liz, what's the hold up on the album??
shmoopy
Maybe she's still writing new songs-when she was discussing the album last year she said she had about 9 songs, which made it seem like it was still very much a work in progress. The John Alagia/Jeff Trott thing is certainly not encouraging, especially after her being vocal about not liking the production on Somebody's Miracle.
The EIG reissue was pretty disappointing and seemed like a bit of a rush job and a missed opportunity. A year later and she still doesn't have a real website...
Maybe someone ought to write ATO and ask for an update (I'm not volunteering, but...) :

I read online somewhere that the show was picked up by Bravo and that there will be a season two. Whether that's good or bad, meh.... watched maybe two episodes of it last year....personally, was not floored by it. Probably good for the nighttime soap lovers. rolleyes.gif
phairphreak
Bravo needs to stick with what it does best, reality.
verbal daggers
Will she be doing music for the new Swingtown? as she is doing 90210 now right? at least her name was on the pilot.
XRay
I stand corrected, Bravo did purchase the rights to Swingtown but will only be showing the first season re-runs. Season 2 is still pretty much up in the air. Sounds like a second season is a long shot at best unless Bravo, CBS, or some other network decides otherwise.
coolchick275
Swingtown was cancelled. I just read about it a couple days ago on either ew or zap2it (I don't remember which).

Back to the producer nonsense, all of her music from the early Girlysound has been manipulated and cut and changed, both lyrically and musically, just look at Guyville. WCSE started out quite a bit differently than it ended up. Brad Wood was on the first three, along with Ms Phair, which, although drifted towards a more mature, less angry, sound, were all quite good, and then he disappeared, and Liz had more than enough producers to be over shadowed on the self-titled, and wasn't even a producer on her own Miracle. Maybe that has something to do with the massive change in sound. Maybe all that's needed to be less...Avril for Liz not to be over powered by her producers. Perhaps with Brad she shared a common vision, so even though they weren't the only two on WCSE they had enough power to override everyone else?
jackstpaul
Another thing that occurred to me is that the stakes are really, really high on this CD.

You know, finally off a major label, returning to real roots, giving up the major rock star thing, being "herself" again. IF it tanks, where is she left? She'll do another CD but will get far less attention for it. And this new return to roots will have a lot of anticipation and p.r. to it. Everyone's looking at her under a microscope. Was she really messed around so much by the majors, etc. or just a 1 trick pony? If the 2nd one tanks--that's all she wrote (or recorded actually, for a while before someone goes to bat for her again).

maybe we should prepare ourselves for another everything to me.

I hope to the high heavens that that is not the case. ATO seems to be rather open as a record label, I mean Gov't Mule, Radiohead, David Gray, North Mississippi Allstars, Orbital, they don't really push the "Everything to Me" feel
