My puter is about 3 years old now. I have never done anything to it as far as updates, virus stuff, delete old crap, etc.

Download and run adaware and spybot subtract and AVG anti-virus, and you might be okay. Tell it to delete all the crap it finds. There's one more I was going to suggest, but let me know if those help, there's a couple more things you could try and it's better than wasting money on some dude doing this kind of thing and charging you a fortune for it.
