For those of you wondering about the status of Liz's forthcoming album, here's what Liz has to say:

"Yes, it's about three quarters finished. It's got a much looser feel to it. I get fucking frustrated because I can't play a lot of instruments so I try and do different things with my voice. This time around I've done a lot of playful backing vocals. I was joking the other day that it's like Enya’s music."

Enya??? I know Liz was just being sarcastic rolleyes.gif I think the layered vocals will be cool. This album could be Whip Smartish meets Spaceegg in nature, ALOT of layered
backing vocals on those two albums. If 'Ding Dong' is representative of the style and sound of the songs, I'd be satisfied and happy with this new album.

i think ding dong is one of those songs which would be better with a bigger production. layers of vocals would be good but not enya-like, just those ones she used to have in whip-smart.

Finally an update on the album not what I has hoped but Im glad to know whats going on with it yay.

I agree 100%. let's hope she does, too. Imagine if she had a hit with it.

i can hear it now. it'd be good, if the first ding dong just has gentle drums. and then the other instruments join in sooner or later. but in a way that it never becomes explosive. like it's just a build up with the percussions always on the edge of fully rockin'. that'd be nice. i doubt if it'd be a hit. i think liz's hit making days are over. at least, if she's serious about getting her cred back.

By hit, I mean that I think the way she does the chorus is very catchy--radio friendly; easily to remember with a good lyrical and musical hook.

The verses could go in a heavy bluesy/soul-like way to make a contrast. Probably not any more mainstream hits, but an alt- hit would be (somewhat) sweet revenge.

Historical aside:

70’s classic, hard rock band Sugarloaf (“Green-eyed Lady”) had a hit with a song about problems with being turned down by a label “Don’t call us we’ll call you.” It had the touchtone sounds of a phone being dialed, and it was the unlisted number of some exec at the label. People figured it out node the label got bombarded with calls.
