Full Version: WTF Liz???
Liz Phair Forum > Liz Phair > Liz Phair Chat

Wow this forum lives on!! Just spotted this over at spinner.com. I know Liz was trying to be silly and parody her affiliation with the Matrix, but, IMHO, this video is pretty LAME! You be the judge. http://www.spinner.com/2008/09/03/liz-phair-and-the-matrix/

I like it. She shoulda got Gary Coleman to play Morpheus, though. Midgets in general would have been a nice touch. I'd also like to have seen her wielding a tuba when bitching about the bassoon. Sleeping through his initial speech would have also been advisable. "Twat did you say, Morpheus?"

Mere trifles, though! I liked it.

Wow. That was lame. Especially the beginning. It got slightly less lame as it went on, but still...I was kinda embarrassed for Liz.

BTW, is the forum running really slow for anyone else?
XRay
After watching this thing a couple of times, it's obvious ( duh!) that Liz wants this video to be lame and is actually making fun of herself for working with the Matrix. Humble pie time. It does have some cute moments, "let's hug it out bitch!" I wonder if Liz is truly producing her own album as this video implies?? I'm feeling more and more positive that this new album is going to be good!

I kind of thought the idea was to parody the very notion of her 'returning to her roots' -- although I think she's very serious about doing that, and very happy to have the chance to do it -- as much as it was parodying her involvement with the Matrix in the first place. I think she might have been thinking about those people who are scoffing at her for 'crawling back' or whatever. At least that's what I was thinking she was aiming for in the first scene of the video (which I thought was FUCKING hilarious, by the way -- the beginning was the best part!). The rest of the video seems to illustrate the stain of the experience, how it [Morpheus] keeps coming back to haunt her.

I'm a big fan of self-parody. This is definitely FunnyOrDie material.

Thanks, XRay! How did you find it?

katefan4
It looks really campy & funny, but I can't listen to it where I am at right now-I will at the shop later

Pitchfork had the link to it. Here: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news...c-for-new-90210 Edit: They now have the vid over on her MySpace page.

Ah, I see it was posted by Amy Phillips over at Pitchfork. she's kind of a bitch when it comes to Liz Phair, isn't she? I remember she was one of a handful of critics who really, really didn't like the New York Guyville show, which was rapturously received by the rest of the audience. Fuck her.
katefan4
I got to hear it now.
I actually thought it was fun. I actually really like the fact that Liz does seem to have a campy side to her-it's actually one of the reasons I liked her to begin with.
The bitchfight was cute.
Now, that hair shampoo commercial at the bginning is very similar to Moi getting out of the shower in the morning and getting ready for work... rolleyes.gif tongue.gif

I gave it a quick try, and the flash content didn't behave as expected. It doesn't spool to your hard drive as a copyable object. The movie that DOES spool is 187K, but only serves as the "front end" of a datastream from aol that represents the real movie. Here's what I tried, and it doesn't work:

But it doesn't avoid the streaming. I'm sure that it can be done, but the method for capturing that stream isn't straightforward. But then I'm no multimedia expert. Ideas, anyone?
wooden and alone
nice try but still won't play. sad. thanks for trying, acid.
acidmouse
ok, I managed to capture it as an FLV file. The software only let me grab the first 75% though, because it's a trial version. But you get most of the good stuff. You miss the hug at the end, and part of the rumble. Here's the link:

You will need an FLV player. This one works:

Yes. I must confess the onset of "cheap, unpleasant desires" during her performance. She's UFO hot.

Acidmouse, if you use firefox you should be able to grab it all as a flash file with the videohelper extension for firefox. Could you give that a try? There's no trial bizzo with that. Then you can just watch it in VLC.
