Can anyone explain to me, why her voice has gradually gotten higher. It was noted on the IMDB that it was because she stopped using drugs, but I guess I've never paid attention, and it recently caught my attention.
Now Here's Where You Come In!
Listen to 'Never Said' and then 'Favourite' immedietly after, which I've done with my (now fixed) iPod mp3 player. You hear its so much higher, but why? Can you 'Explain it to Me?'

For the drugs, I don't know, they might have lowered it to a certain degree, but that sounds a bit far-fetched to me.
BUT... I don't think it's drugs. I just think she gradually changed her singing voice by practicing singing higher or something, because on WCSE, while her voice is higher than Whip-Smart + Exile, it remains lower than on LP and SM, and I reallly doubt she was doing drugs while she was taking care of her baby son.
Her speaking voice is different too, I just think her mannerisms have changed.

It actually says that on IMDB? That's some crazy shit. Putting down the weed isn't necessarily going to make your voice higher. Voice lessons might help, though.
Keep in mind that the self titled record is more produced, and they did tweak the crap out of her voice.

But Somebody's Miracle? Just as high, without the tweakage.

sorry to break it to you, but her voice has still been tweaked on SM. Autotune sucks.

Yeah, but not quite in the same way.
And if you hear her live her voice is higher.

i was watching liz live videos from youtube and it was kind of disheartening how she has changed, like totally. i watched that tower records performance of 6'1" and something about her demeanor was so off putting. her hair was sexily over her eyes and she was doing this smily, seductive thing which is just shitty. there's nothing less sexy than someone who knows they're sexy. fortunately, there were the videos from the 1995 solo tour. she was so jawdroppingly good. sad.
oh yeah, her voice is definitely higher, even speaking. i think she got a lobotomy or got her tongue twisted. it's kind of annoying. she can't sing those songs the same way. i guess, she never could. but she cannot capture the angst, not anymore.

Tis better to be wooden and alone than flaccid and surrounded.

I would lose all hope, I mean on recent live stuff I've heard, she doesn't sound bad when she does her old stuff.
I mean of course it's not the same, not as low, not the same mannerisms, but from the 2005 bootleg Erebus gave us she sounded really good, better than a lot of the 2003-2004 performances I've heard.
