Maybe I missed it but I’ve been a little surprised not to see mention here of an acoustic Liz & Dino dimeadozen torrent which popped up on Dec 13. This is one sweet show. Well recorded and performed, albeit with a bit of that trademark Liz voice quavering on the early tracks but wonderful nonetheless. I’ve uploaded an mp3 of the show’s Mesmerizing here, or at least I hope I have:
http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?acti...0838C210F3E4C76That mp3 link should be good for seven days. Maybe somebody with compressing software and a premium uploading account somewhere can post the whole show.
Here are the dimeadozen lossless link and text info posted there:

Notes: This is an early Christmas present for all you Liz Phair fans - a beautiful, flawless recording from her 2005 acoustic tour. This has never been circulated before now to my knowledge. Enjoy!
UPDATE:
Corrected CD tray artwork available here:

Erebus, thanks a bunch for making this acoustic version of Mesmerizing available. IMHO, it is absolutely KILLER! She sounds great! GOT to get the rest of this show downloaded. Thanks again.

Wow! Thanks, Erebus! What a great file.
I wasn't able to log in to the torrent site; I don't ever deal with those kinds of files so I don't even think I have the software to use whatever I might eventually be able to download. It'd be so very awesome if someone could post the whole show as separate mp3 files... Maybe I can work out a deal with someone?
Great to hear "Mesmerizing" -- her banter afterward makes me really wish I could sit down with her & talk guitar, maybe go over some of the older songs I know & jog her memory about things I haven't figured out. A boy can dream...
Hey, at the very least, could someone upload an mp3 of "Don't Hold Yr Breath" from that show? THANKS!
Big hug,
JE

You’re welcome XRay and everybody. It’s the least I can do. I’m just sitting around sipping beer and watching Australian Open tennis on TV.
Of course I encourage any who can to get the lossless files. Most often you have to persist when trying to get a dimeadozen account. Don’t try once and then come back ten minutes later or tomorrow. Rather, instead refresh and refresh, until you get through. They have a cap set on the number of members but there’s a high turnover so there are always new vacancies. And once you get an account, use it. Last time I checked they were routinely deleting accounts that showed no activity for two weeks. I always keep torrent windows open, partially to be a good dime citizen but also so I can maintain my active status and thereby retain a viable account. They only allow you to seed ten torrents at a time but I keep my eye on about sixty torrents to monitor leeching interest. Mostly Frank and the Pixies, but I also have a mega Tom Waits torrent I've kept open for over a year. Even got a Hank Williams III seed I nurture. I caught him in Reno this past summer. Imagine a semi-traditional country set followed by 'Fugazi meets vintage Sabbath'. Great speed metal drummer with a hot pink Riff Raff mohawk. Anyway, these days I mostly upload, but I do check about once a week to see whether there’s a new torrent for Frank, Liz, Kristin, Sam, or whomever. I used to be obsessive about it, checking the dime several times a day for new torrents, but over the years I’ve accumulated over a thousand bootlegs, about half of which I’ve never even listened to. A few months ago I finally realized that was ridiculous, so now I’m more measured with my downloads.

Interesting. I was able to download and display the artwork, but when I saved to disk, it didn't seem to recognize the file as jpeg.
What I did to "work around" the problem was to screen capture the page using Irfanview and then save the screen capture instead.
I don't have bittorrent installed on my Windows or Mac boxes, but I do have it on Linux and I'll try to snag them later on. I'll report on that later. I have snagged all of the mp3 files.
Update: yep, I'm stopped by the need for the account to get the torrents. I'll keep trying...
I was a little confused on the sound check files being at the end. I would normally think that these logically occur at the beginning of the performance. Is it just me???
I am so glad that I noticed this thread.
Hope my comments add value--this is really cool.

I was able to get the artwork OK using a Mac. Pity that I already printed three copies of the earlier version that had the incorrect title for track four.
Regarding soundchecks, I've seen them arranged both ways. This way it kinda makes for an appendix or coda. To me it works well at the end whereas at the beginning it could be a spoiler. I like the glimpse behind the curtain and the way Table For One bookends the disc. Table is my favorite track from Somebody's Miracle. Both Liz and Dino sound like respectful, civilized human beings here, not sporting any kind of attitude. Overall, this show demonstrates the recent Liz to good effect. People with only a fringe awareness of her think she's been in decline but I think she's matured as an artist and as an adult. I've awakened the last three mornings with Little Digger in my brain. [edit: Didn't mean to offend any of the core fans here with that "fringe" comment. I realize that some who love Liz the most also think her last couple discs indicate "decline". If it's any consolation, the same kind of debates flare up over at Frank Black's fan site.]

I think Somebody's Miracle the album would have worked better if it was done with just two acoustic guitars like here. I mean of course the songs still aren't amazing but they are made even worse by the production of the album. The only song that I can really think benefits from the production is Lazy Dreamer.

Very good stuff! Thanks Erebus! As far as the production of SM, I think the production of Got My Own Thing, Why I Lie, and especially Everything (Between Us ) is excellent. The strings on Everything ( Between Us ) are gorgeous.

A few more notes.
First, if any of you are thinking about moving these to your iPods, you'll need to edit the ID3 tags. I'm doing that now using Winamp. If you don't do this, the songs won't appear associated with "Liz Phair".
Here are the directions: Load file into Winamp. Use "I" command from classic file or do file properties. You'll see greyed out artist, title, album, year, etc. information. Fill in everything and hit the update button. You can probably do this with iTunes, but I like using Winamp (been using it a lot longer, and I created m3u playlist in the process). Oops, I had to re-edit the m3u file so that my iPod display doesn't display Liz Phair redundantly in front of each song. I wish iTunes was a little smarter about merging in information from m3u files and the ID3 tags. Argh!
Second, I edited the "download" that was supposed to be the jpg file. It turned out to be an html file, so there is some kind of html scripting to prevent the jpg from being saved to disk. Like I said, it didn't really stop me.
These files are awesome. Again, I'm trying to assist anyone that runs into the same minor issues that I'm seeing--hope this helps.

The link that says that it is a jpg file is actually html with embedded jpg.
I snagged the actual jpg file from Cache for my web browser.
I'm also using iTunes to update the artwork with the cover--this is why I wanted actual jpg file.

This version of "Mesmerizing" is very reminiscent of her solo '95 tour performances. It's nice to hear Liz stripped down without Dino's craptastic vocals ruining everything.
I just wish Liz would go back to singing "Never Said" the way she used to.

Hey all,
I'm the one who made this recording. Sorry I didn't post about it earlier but the registration process here sucks and I gave up in frustration... Anyway I got it straightened out now obviously. Glad everyone is digging the show, it was a great evening and I only wish she had been able to play longer. I guess the MP3s are out there already but I really hope no one burns these to CD for trading - please keep the quality of the original recording and don't trade MP3 discs! I use Xact Audio Compression Toolkit to convert the .flac files to .wav, then I import the .wav files to iTunes and select "advanced" and then "convert selections to AAC."
If this doesn't make any sense, just type "Flac (or whatever type of file it is) to mp3" into google, and you'll get lots of hits. That's how I figured it out.
