What I'm asking is, does anyone who gets to briefly meet Liz Phair after a show ask what the heck she's doing with her career?

Sorry – when I “met” her all I could say was “Thanks for the pic” (she gave me her guitar pic after I gave her some peach roses) – basically I blacked out from nerves. LOL!

Thats so cute! I always though you sucked the life out of everything around you. Those must've been strong roses, and Liz must know some strong magic.

Dude, I am totally not a hardcore hag at all. Just some peeps/things can grate and I let it be known. But, yea – I wish I could remember the encounter. I remember the audio – just not the visual. Weird.

I met her briefly last fall... She mostly ignored me... I didn't really know what to say, said something like thanks for coming to <my town>... she didn't really respond to it... She did however, take notice when i presented her with a sharpie to sign autographs with. it all went quite quickly.

Despite what I said, liz was not unfriendly or mean, she just seemed to be in a rush, but she was more than willing to sign two of my liner notes and take a picture

I did not ask her about the last two albums, because (1) i like the last two albums (2) it would be cruel to confront her with such a question, even if i didn't like the last two albums and (3) she was rushed, so I wouldn't have had time anyway.

Really the only reason I'm posting this is so I can relive that moment... I apologize for not contributing anything interesting...

Wow stupid topic, I don't know why I started it. That would be such a rude thing to say to her!

A bunch of us have matured quite a bit since first coming here.

As Liz would say "That's a good thing."

I don't think I could tell her what I don't like about her past two albums. If anything I would tell her to never let the record company influence her, just stay true to herself. I'd probably only be able to say, "OMG LIZ PHAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!! WILL YOU MARRY ME?!!!!!?!!!!!"
baudrillard
I'd propose marriage too.

That's why, in some ways, I almost hate meeting my idols-my friend who managed a record shop got us backstage for quite a few folk for awhile (long time ago now for the most part), and if they seem unfriendly, they usually don't mean to be that way-I think they usually pretty guarded and/or pretty tired. Now, I usually just send my stuff backstage to get autographs w/out bugging them & the people are usually always kind about it. We had a bad experience with the Pixies the last time when we had an All-Access pass-it was more the management than the group (I hope), but they refused to honor the pass or give my stuff to them to sign (which I've NEVER had happen to me with many people through the years). The show sucked, too, and even though I always will like them it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Well, the performances really seemed like they had their eye on the paycheck, if you know what I mean-and I've been a fan since the beginning & have seen them several times the first time around. I don't know if they did this in all cities, but they actually did a series of 4 shows over two days at $40 plus service charge a whack ( I think they expected the real fans to probably go to each show, which I'm sure a lot did). I actually wasn't going to go, but my friend & I got comps and All Access Passes through a record label person we used to work with, so we went to the final show on the last evening. I probably shouldn't have been so upset, but the backstage manager was probably one of the rudest people I have dealt with. It's not like I was out $, so can't bitch about that, but it really spoiled the mood & the evening-I think we left halfway through-it was really, really late before they even started & even drinks weren't helping. I'll always love the music of the Pixies, but I doubt I will ever go see any of them again-except maybe if Breeders make a return.
