Courtney gets slagged on way too much. I love the woman. And her last cd was far and away better than Liz’s last one.

courtney brought on a lot of this slagging herself. the way she's acted in public has not made people warm up to her. that and her contless arrests doesn't make her look like that credible of an aritst. she is seen by a lot as tabloid fodder.

that's my point though. a lot of people aren't going to see courtney love for what little musical talent she may have. her antics overshadow that. just like pete dougherty. any musical talent he has isn't going to be seen because of his constant arrests. he's become a joke. sure, this is a list of talented musicians. but already people on this board have slaggeed off courtney love for even being on the list to begin with. you then said courtney gets slagged on way too much. to which i said was a good deal her fault. and i said why. and i have no intention of seeing stick it. i have sense enough to avoid it. i just don't hold a lot of prententiousness when it comes to what i choose to see.

Simmer down Sister Sledge, simmer down now.
I guess I should have stated that “Courtney gets slagged on as not being a good musician, which she is”. If people are so ignorant that they let personality and antics deem whether a person has musical talent then that’s their prob. I can’t stand Russell Crowe and think he has major issues but I cannot deny that he is a great actor.
And I am not pretentious, just don't like crap movies. Crap TV, but not crap movies.

Well, in my book Live Through This is right up there with Exile. Any way you look at her she has created at least one more masterpiece than any of us.
And save the “but Kurt wrote it” comments. I don’t care if he did – there would be no LTT without my C-Lo.

I remember when she use to be in and out of clinics, courts, cop cars, blah blah blah. Im thinking damn this womans is crazy! but who am i to judge? im not perfect myself. Behind all that shit, she's one of the greatest lady rockers and writers. People dont REALLY recognize her music and lyrics, when she has the tabloids trashed on her and shit. "Live throught this" is a fucking masterpiece! and "Celebrity Skin" like she says............"Becareful what you wish for?"

i like courtney but to say that her last album was better than the liz's last one. i do not think so. the genres the two albums belong in are so different. and liz is not exactly doing anything angry or yelping. she was trying to make a perfect pop record and halfway succeeding. courtney was trying to... i don't even know what she was trying to do. it was a mess, a shrill mess. i love live through this and celebrity skin though. so talent has really nothing to do with why she landed in that list. and please, liz has more songwriting talent than courtney any day.
i think courtney love is very appealing as a rock performer. her voice suits the screaming. her angst is totally affecting, except when she's too frazzled to make sense. and she is a mess, that's why she's a credible rock hero. sex, drugs and rock and roll. it's a vicious circle. her charm relies too much on what's destroying her.

I will take Americas Sweetheart over Somebody’s Miracle any day. One is music to kick someone’s ass to, the other is music to kick your own ass to. I liked it the first month or so then I realized how it just did nothing for me. Very forgettable. But slip on “Mono” and you’re ready to rock.

I'm disappointed in you, Poopy.
Americas Sweetheart I really only enjoy when I'm going through a Courtney phase. Outside that, it just doesn't work for me.
Somebody's Miracle always works. It gets more frequent plays than anything Courtney anyway.
But America's Sweetheart had a better love song in 'Uncool' than Somebody's Miracle did in 'Count On My Love'.

Alternative? Not sure – but doesn’t feel/sound like rock to me.
Like Tori has had some rock-ish songs (especially on FTCGH), but I still wouldn’t call her rock. Janet Jackson puts one rock song on most her albums (Black Cat, Whatabout, Trust a Try, etc.) but she is not rock.

May 18 2006, 04:46 PM
yes. i would go with alternative too. but then that's rock as well. just, well an alternative verison of it. hell, u2 were alternative before becoming full blown rock. same as r.e.m. did. most 80's "alternative" acts, at least the ones being played on 120 minutes eneded up in the full fledged rock/pop field before it was all over. i've always thought an artist that had lots of pounding drums, electic guitars, and fast paced songs were pretty much rock. tori never fit the bill really except for that one albun. the rest of her stuff is the type of stuff played on lite rock stations. very mellow and soft. she would occasionally break out from that though.

Choirgirl and Venus are rocky, but they have an electronic edge too
