Right now I'm rekindling my love of the Counting Crows... I have qualms about my love for them though. Their music is lovely, their lyrics are stunning, but from all the press I see, Adam Duritz is such a shit. He has a blog, and a message board for the CC, and whenever people get into debates and arguments (as we do on this forum) about their lack of/abundance of their selling-out-itude, or anything regarding their integrity, he goes on this rant on his blog about how theyre such horrible people, and how he doesnt give a shit about what the fans like, he's going to keep doing what he does.....I don't know.

it's always liz phair. i love everything she stands for and i know, the music she's released as of late doesn't really inspire fanatical devotion but exile in guyville, whip-smart, girly sound and whitechocolatespaceegg are timeless masterpieces. and the last two records, and the comeandgetitep had some really great moments. her voice is truly unique and her attitude is accessible but amazing. i will always love her and she will always be top of the heap for me.
that said, of the more current bands, one has really, truly moved me. and this is the organ. the organ is an all female rock band from canada. they make music which just makes me feel more. their influences can be traced from throwing muses, the smiths and blondie. their songs are surging, driving pieces but there's a genuine sense of melancholy, especially in the lyrics.
my neck hurts, ‘ cause i’ve been cutting moons
my hands hurt, ‘ cause i cut them from you
so someone snuck into your room
and it got back to me
now, i lie here in my room
and there is nothing i can do
but cut and think about you -there is nothing i can do

to anyone who's the least bit interested, check them out.

Right now I'd have to say everything and anything Sonic Youth. Been listening to 'Dirty' in my car for about 6 months and at night I always pop in some of their jammier albums like 'A Thosuand Leaves' or 'Daydream Nation'. Thier side projects are also quite amazing, Thurston with his 1995 solo release 'Psychic Hearts' which is like a SY album w/o Lee or Kim. And Kim with Free Kitten, oh Kitten! Got to love Kim's vocals and lyrics on their debut, Nice Ass and the song 'Call Back' is a gem.

Yeah it leaked awhile ago. It's a pretty decent record. By far their most pop-flavored album, more than Dirty or Goo. I'm so glad that Lee has a few songs, his lyrics are just kick ass. Kim steps it up with her songs especially on the opener "Rena" and "What a Waste". I really miss the jam sessions because quite frankly only 2 songs have any extended instrumentals.

they have the adventure, but i don't see how they're rather popular. they're first cd ever just came out a week ago. and they've only released one single. what you are refering to i believe is due to tom delonge being in the band. all the blink-182 fans are all over this band because of tom. otherwise they're not really that popular.

The B-52s. They are the UNDISPUTED summer band. I've read reviews of their albums everywhere but I think all of them are equally great. Supposedely, "Bouncing off the Satelittes" and "Good Stuff" are shit records (to the critics) but both of those sound as good to me as their debut.
Also psych-pop band called the Cucumbers who have learned to perfect the male/female harmonies. The lead female singer has a whole Kim Deal-ish vocals going on.
