we left yesterday

see, i feel she hasn't been this focused in years. not since selma songs or debut. or at least this engaging. i haven't liked a bjork album this much in years. i think over the past few years she's become unfocused and draggy. vespertine is quite nice but doesn't measure up to her best work. and medulla has it's moments, but i swear i don't like this record at all. i sold it. i never listened to it much or felt like i should. i just don't think it does bjork justice. i heard way too much negative stuff about drawing restraint and i never dug the cover or concept behind it so i politely passed. she became too weird for her own good. here we have volta and it really marked a new and wonderful chapter in her career. she made an album that could excite me again and really fire me up. before volta i was only a passing fan. i loved sugarcubes, but never kept up much with bjork after debut. losing interest and moving on musically.
the more and more time passed my tastes changed and bjork's work became colder and colder. it was still good sometimes, but a lot of the times it never let me in to absorb, love, and linger. volta is her warmest record in quite some time. the melodies are evident and crisp. she has a new found energy. she's not dull or draggy. raging and full of passion is this new bojrk and it's a bjork i fully welcome into my ears. she is fully focused and hitting her mark finally. if i had to rank her albums i would rank them as such:
1. debut - 5 stars
2. volta - 5 stars
3. selmasongs - 4 and 1/2 stars
4.homogenic - 4 stars
5. vespertine - 3 and 1/2 stars/ maybe 4 stars
6. post - 2 and 1/2 stars/3 stars
7. medulla - 2 stars/2 and 1/2 stars
but then i'm not the big bjork fan that qp is. i just never really have been. she sometimes is too processed for me, as well cold and sterile. not organic enough. i try and try, but i really love music played with instruments. it's how i am.

Couldn't say, she's far more agressive than any other artists you listen to, save Homogenic Era Bjork.
Stories From the City would be a good starting place. She's a great guitarist, a lot of her other work is... all bass. Very cool.

I really liked her first two albums & then sort've lost connection with her for some reason. I'll have to listen to some of her later stuff.
PS
Actually just noticed (via Amazon) it looks like she has new album with cool cover due in late September!

nah, she does some stark bass guitar things but most of the time, she's going for it with hard rock riffs and bluesy slide style as in rid of me era. she's a great guitarist.
