acidmouse

Who is acid mouse?

[queue viola music]

It's a long story... Back in college (yes college - circa 1991) I claimed to have an invisible friend named Rat Girl. Like my so-called "real" friends, Rat Girl was a disillusioned young adult living in the early 90s, wondering what the fuck would happen once college ended. I served as her spokesman, relating her unusual perspective on diverse subjects, generally for the purpose of making absurd jokes. Most everyone who came to know of Rat Girl insisted that she was the most obnoxious person they'd ever met. But she was also quite insightful, an eloquent vulgarian, and would, on occasion, amaze everyone with her profound views on everyday life. My girlfriend hated Rat Girl. So did most other girls, for some reason. The guys would start making jokes about Rat Girl and the "real" girls would leave. Religious people also abhorred Rat Girl, figuring that she was some thinly veiled jab at their own invisible friend, God.

Anyhow, acid mouse is an older, less wild, and wiser version of Rat Girl.

Yes, I had a "real" imaginary friend. But what does that mean, really? Rat Girl would tell you that it's the fake imaginary friends that you have to worry about for real. She was the recurring character in an elaborate, unnerving joke.
trampolinefromspace
I think I mentioned this before, but it was in the great purge.

trampoline from space is a google earth reference to one of the noticeable objects in my backyard. What you see when you zoom in as far as you can is my daughter's car parked out front ('94 Toyota Corrolla at the time of the photo), the Live Oak tree up front, the live oak tree in the back yard and this big black circle. That's the trampoline that my wife bought for the kids and it's the most recognizable thing, once you know what it is.

I liked it, because it was something that you didn't think it was. It literally is a trampoline, as viewed from space, instead of a trampoline that comes from space.

There are Liz Phair connections. trampoline was mentioned in the last song on the last album. space is the third word from the third album (damn--I didn't notice the fact that it's the third before. I'm the third of four sons and numerologically my birthdate adds up to "3").

Actually the hidden meaning of the screen name seems very much to be the kind of thing that I thought that Liz Phair would approve of, since there seems to be so much double meaning in her lyrics. It is also a recognition that she was a visual artist when she started and she's refered to point of view in her songs as well ("Don't look at me straight on...").

The syllable counts also align with my real name (3, 1, 1). I have to (and choose to) sign my name using my middle name as I have an extremely common last name.

I know what you're thinking--too much information. Fuck!

DISCLAIMER: unlike most of my posts, the following is all true.

I'm not sure when exactly I invented Rat Girl, but it was back in 1990-91. I've got a lot of handwritten material from that drug addled era someplace, and could no doubt trace her origin to a particular event if I wanted to dig through that shit. I recall working on a cartoon strip at one point that included the character of Rat Girl, where I actually drew a picture. I wish I could find it, because it DID look a lot like Liz Phair, a fact that I immediately realized when, years later, in late 1993, I saw her face on the cover of the Village Voice. You can imagine my surprise when I discovered that this female rock star sounded like Rat Girl as well. But that's all strictly coincidental.

So acidmouse is just another version of ratgirl. Notably, acidmouse is also the main character in a novel I started back in 2005. I never finished it, or even got close. But in one particular chapter called Girly Sound, acidmouse (that's just her nickname) gets a pair of Girly Sound tapes as a birthday present. But while writing that chapter, I realized I didn't know enough about Girly Sound, and so I logged on to the LPF to do some research. I figured I would use the name acidmouse so that my posts would converge with the content of the novel. (yes, it's all been a setup from the very beginning.)

And that's the story of my screen name.

Nope, just making an observation.

Pretty self-explanatory, actually. I'm cool, I'm a chick, and 275 is my rural route box number. And that is how I came up with the name coolchick275.

Actually,

I was giving you a hard time.

I sometimes forget that y'all don't have quite the raising-the-bar kind of performance requirements for your jobs.

I'm always expected to outperform myself, at all times.

It can be a bit stupid at times.

Cherub, I like you and consider you a valuable member of the forum.

I've noticed mcv has returned with a flurry of posts.

We don't have an explanation of what mcv means. I have my guess about M now. I wonder about "c" and "v".

I was thinking that we should probably enumerate all of the accepted abbreviations for our handles. Tramp suits me fine.

Does that explain everyone?

Back to the top of the list.
