It reminds me of Sometimes a Dream in that respect--wending its way all over the place, then eventually spinning an unsettling twist on some childhood song--more than a LITTLE trippy. Love it.

Actually, the ending part of the childhood song is Miss Mary Mack and JE, as for the ending, I'm talking about her guitar playing, it coincides with the ending to the childhood song. It changes into a song that I know (the riff) but I can't for the life of me, figure out the song.
Also, do you all realize that she sings about a Puerto Rican black woman named Miss Mary Mack and that Miss Mary Mack is a tweeker and wants more money for drugs so she asks her mom and then her brother and then she breaks into that White Lines line from that Grandmaster Flash song from the 80s. Everyone who knows that song (and JE I know if you heard it you would recognize it, if you are not too young) or has heard it knows that the song is about cocaine.
Damn, I forgot how fuckin cool and genious Liz is!!!!!!
Anyway, listen to the ending chords, that is a classic rock tune but can't figure it out. It starts right at the point of the Miss Mary Mack riddle at the end.
I agree JE, I love this song and quickly has become a favorite off the GS.
Here are the lyrics that I can make out. I know some of them are wrong so let me know and I'll change em. Now does the second line really say Puerto Rican-Black? That's what I hear...
MISS MARY MACK
Miss Mary Mack
Puerto Rican-Black
Said she'd do anything
to get a check soon
She said a check soon
She asked her mother
for 20 grand
cuz she said her rent
had got out of hand
She said out of hand
She was so high
She touched the sky
She didn't come down
Until she almost died
She didn't come down
Until she almost died
And her mother said
Mary I can't help more than I do
I don't have enough love left for you
Miss Mary Mack
about to crack
cuz she said her man hauled off he up and smacked her
she said smacked her
She asked her brother
for 20 grand
cuz she said her debts
had got out of hand
she said out of hand
she was so high
she touched the sky
she didn't come down
until she almost died
and her brother said
Mary I can't help more than I do
I don't have enough money for you
But Mary said
"Ticket to Ride Whiteline highway
Tell all your friends they can go my way"
"Ticket to Ride Whiteline highway
Tell all your friends they can go my way"
"Ticket to Ride
They can come my way
Tell all your friends
Tell all your friends
Miss Mary Mack
Puerto Rican-Black
Said that she was born down South
Mississippii Jackson
She said Jack
Miss Mary Black
Puerto Rican-Black
said she'd probably die down South
Mississippii Jack
She was so high
She touched the sky
She didn't come down
Until she almost died
She didn't come down
Until she almost died
Mary I can't help more than I do
I don't have enough time left for you
But Mary said
"Ticket to Ride Whiteline highway
Tell all your friends they can go my way"
"Ticket to Ride Whiteline highway
Tell all your friends they can go my way"
"Ticket to Ride
They can come my way
Tell all your friends
Tell all your friends
iss Mary Mack Mack Mack
All dressed in black, black, black
With silver buttons, buttons, buttons
All down her back, back, back.
She asked her mother, mother, mother
For 50 cents, cents, cents
To see the elephants, elephants, elephants, elephants, elephants
Jump over the fence, fence,
They jumped so high, high, high
They touched the sky, sky, sky
And they didn't come back, back, back
'Til the 4th of July, ly, ly!
It was a lie, lie, lie
It was a lie
