Well, I was just talking to one today and he said he didn't believe in global warming. Nevermind the fact that the vast majority of scientists who study global weather patterns think it's happening. Nevermind that this is the hottest January on record. Nevermind that the icecaps are melting at an alarming rate. He seems to know better. He said something about the sky being so big or something he didn't think factories could cause it. He also said something about the Jet Stream being screwed up. I wonder why it is? Hum.

Republicans tend to also not believe in evolution. Despite the fact that, again, most scientists who study the subject, do. Despite dinosaur fossils and fossils of Peking man and Austrolopithicus etc. Despite the fact that we are 98% genetically identical with champanzees. Despite the discoveries of Charles Darwin, Charles Lyle and others. Once again, having learned nothing on the subject, they think they know better.

They also, not all of course, tend to dislike people who are not like them, ie. gays and homosexuals. They think that people like that choose their lifestyles. And they also think it is an immoral lifestyle. This leads them to try to enact laws which prohibit gays from taking care of their partners expenses when they are chronically ill. So who is going to do it for them?

This administration, in particular, sucks because they attacked a country that had never attacked us, that posed no threat to us, and they lied in order to justify the invasion. 3000 Americans were killed by al Qeada on 9/11. America's response has been to kill at least ten times as many Iraqis. What sense does that make? They have increased hatred of us around the world, gotten over 2200 of our soldiers needlessly killed, ten times as many needlessly wounded, spent 200 billion dollars and for what? So Iraqis could live in a democracy? Call me cynical, but I don't think this country owes them that much.

They are also raping the envirornment. Bush wants to take the guts out of the Clean Air and Water Act. He wants to allow more mercury (which causes birth defect) into the water. Ironic since he's supposedly against abortion. He wants more sulfiric acid in the water. He wants to get around the Montreal Protocol which was signed by President Reagan to stop ozone depletion. He won't sign the Kyoto Protocol, even after the worst hurricane season on record. How bad do things have to get?

He also appoints idiots and unqualified people to major positions in the government ie, John Bolton, Brown (can't think of his first name), head of FEMA and John Roberts (why is he chief justice?). He thinks the law doesn't apply to him ie, spying on us without getting a warrant.

And then there's the whole torturing issue. Why haven't people in the pentagon been indicted for this? Bush appointed Gonzolez (the man who said that the Geneva Convention was quaint) as his Attorney General !! Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld continue to support the use of torture. And Christians, who are supposed to turn the other cheek, who are supposed to give the shirts off their backs, who are supposed to fogive seven times seventy continue to support these evil idiots, just because Bush says he's a Christian. WAKE UP!!!

There are some republicans I do like and do respect (John McCain, Colin Powel, Arlen Spector) but the ones in charge right now are just horrible. It's hard to find words, even, to discribe how bad they are.

Chrisianity is an impossible and unatainable goal.

It is much easier to give it a half-assed attempt and use it to bully other peoplearound with hypocritical demagoguery.

I dont care what anyone says: you should do what makes youa better person. But christian does not automatically equal good and right.

No religion doesn't automatically mean that.

But I think it becomes offensive when you try to pawn your beliefs off on others or restrict their personal lives and business just because your god says you should.
Or is that your priest.
Or maybe it is just you being a human being trying to do what we do, be with people who are like us and spite those who aren't.

Which is perfectly acceptable, but not if you pretend you are better than human behaviour and deny your actions.

One of my most core beliefs is you should do what makes you a good person.
That is different for everyone, but I hate it when people become aggressive and against others just because.

I watched a really interesting program not so long ago about how the world would be better off if all religions stopped.
It came down to this....

"Evil people do evil things, but for good people to do evil things, Religion is needed".

I disagree with most religions, but for so many different reasons that I wont even start now. I wish I'd kept some of my old blogs and rants (Like the one on myspace about a person's own independance, etc).

I'm not sure what sulfiric acid is? Maybe it's something to clean up the environment.

I don't necessarily think religion is bad. Gandhi said all religions contain some truth in them, but all are also flawed. I think Christianity's flaw is that it tends to exclude those who think or act differently. Yet, this was not the message that Christ delivered in the gosspels. His message was one of inclusion, not exclusion.

^ I hope you were writing about jiva and not me because I agree with everything you said and it sounds like my personal experience and I do a lot of volunteer work with churches (and also other organizations which are not church based but are also worthy of our time)

How about.. the way Christian homosexuals get told their way is the wrong way by people who take the bible too literally, or those (like my newly baptised roommate) that hide behind religion as a way of defying her buddhist parents, quote the bible and claim to do good things, but then tell people to fuck off constantly and will go out their way to hurt other people's feeligns? I'm not saying all Christians are like this, but this hypocrisy does seem to show up a lot. Maybe the fundamentalists are just the most visible.

Flower – I can understand where you are coming from. A lot of my gay friends don’t understand that either. The thing is, if being gay is a sin does it really matter? EVERYBODY sins, so a gay person is no less or more than a straight person.
