I don't like Cat Power normally, but this album is awesome. in theory anyway. I haven't listened to the whole thing.

heh. i'm actually listening to everything by tori. she's up in the rotation. i'm listening to iieee as i'm typin this. "jackie's strength" was just on and it was so sad.

edie brickell and new bohemians - live at poor david's pub in dallas in december of 85. it's amazing how accomplished they sound considering they had only formed a few months before the show. this is during their original new bohemians incarnation. amazing. totally amazing. kenny withrow is without a doubt the best guitarist out there. no wonder so many guitar legends are floored by his work.

I know she's an artist you used to not be into.. I commend you for giving her another listen, that's awesome! Most people don't give challenging material a chance.. the fact that your opinion of an artist can turn around, speaks very highly of you!

Tori Amos - To Venus And Back.

This record is just always there for me, so often "Spring Haze" comes back to me and fills in a tiny little void inside. (Why does it always end up like this? Waiting on Sunday to drown...). In conclusion, this is still and will probably always be my favourite Tori Amos album.

i don't know if i have a favorite tori amos album anymore. i can't get through one listen anymore to most of them. i like the beekeeper still, but i don't even play that one. i'll probably get the box set, but tori for me is becoming ancient history.

i listened to that after from the choirgirl, and yeah it's one of her more interesting works.
i liked concertina, bliss and 1000 oceans.

ah i see. hmm.. well he made it seem like he really strongly disliked her before.

To Venus and Back is amazing. it really makes you think, and i love her experimentation. it is probably my second favorite (after Boys for Pele.)

i just thought i've grown out of her music. i mean, if i listen to her, i won't turn it off, unless it's beekeeper. but she's up in the rotation. i go through phases where i just listen to the albums, mp3s and all that chronologically. it's bizarre. like after to venus and back, i'm now listening to scarlet's walk.

^ this album really is such good pop. "now i can die" is so catchy and "hate your way" reminds me of classic Veruca Salt.

yeah, i love it. weird, i was listening to some songs from it this morning. "got me down" and "hate my way" are probably the best songs in the album. i love nina.

The official name for it is the Crucify CD Single Part 2 (Limited Edition CD EP Box). It contains live versions of Mother, Little Earthquakes, Precious Things and Crucify. You're thinking of the US Crucify EP. It's so hard to keep all her EPs, singles and B-sides straight. There are so many different versions and a lot of songs appear on more than one thing. It's easy to get confused. I've been organizing all my Tori b-sides and thank god for hereinmyhead, otherwise I would be so confused right now!

I love that ep! That version of "Mother" is my favourite of the bunch.

Yeah, I'm really digging it. Mother is like my favorite Tori song ever, so anytime I run across a version of it that I don't have I'm like oh my god, I have to have it. I love it.

I've been listening to Stromata all day, as it's brilliant. But now I'm listening to Tori's Tales Of A Librarian (Which is rare for me.)

finding a voice to losing pieces:
Human pieces, Song pieces,
Woman’s pieces,
the Lovers missing
puzzle pieces

can be chosen
to be a part of the Narrative.
A Narrative that
hopefully takes the
listener
through the winter
spring summer
and
fall of a woman’s
life
who is simply trying
to step into her
own authority
of her own Being –
without becoming
devoured by those
who believe themselves
to hold the authority
over her and other
beings.
While not becoming
a devourer

some of my life as I know it.

but some work better live.

i saw mia perform in conan when the album was released and she is very pretty, very exotic.

the music though is not my cup of tea. the performance though was enough to have me groovin' a bit. it's a nifty tune. of course, i forgot what song she performed. oh wait, it's called "galang".

casey dienel - wind-up canary

with the rise of artists like regina spektor and nellie mckay, there seems to be renewed interest in singer songwriters who incorporate some traditional structure in their work. casey dienel is lucky she came at the right time. her music out of the three is the most in touch with old fashioned genres. her voice has a light, unsteady jazz sway to it, which is interesting and her piano playing is very authentic to the era. and though her lyrics are contemporary and more thoughtful than your regular revivalist, she manages to hit a totally retro nerve. "all or nothing" is almost a theatrical experience, with a big band supporting her rickety piano performance and her tiny voice. she is at best though when the focus is on her sad melodies, as in the case of "tundra" and "the la la song".
