pj harvey - dry
pj harvey (the band) rocks best here. their music, undiluted and purely, blissfully, orgasmically loud and catchy. this is not elastica tongue firmly in cheek. the songs burn, they are damn sexy. oh my lover, happy and bleeding, water, sheela na gig all scorch with both love and damnation for the male specie while plants and rags never fails to creep out.

Yeah everytime i hear about the "felt mountain" they compare that album to portishead. Since portishead is trip hop music, very down tempo with creepy music!! I LOVE IT!!! have you heard of them??? they have that song "Roads" on the Tank Girl" which is fucking amazing!! i love portishead.
I recommend the "Dummy" album

blissfully, joyfully rocking. there are softer spots in this record but for the most part, songs like this is love and good fortune dominate the affair. their cheery disposition guaranteed to make one stand up and play air guitar, sing along to harvey's increasingly beautiful voice. horses in my dreams is eerie but even that tells of a rising above one's private hell. radio ready but still, harvey is authentic. i love you, polly!

bagpipes, strings, acoustic guitars and goswell's voice, what a treat. like sarah shannon of velocity girl, rachel goswell always seemed to have a vocal quality that would sound perhaps better in broadway or mainstream pop than in the murky waters of dream pop. but as slowdive's souvlaki proves everytime i listen to it, she pretty much fits everywhere she wants to. the songs in this LP are lovely and normal. normal meaning that there's nothing here that suggests she was a part of the shoegazing thing. the songs are all melodic, soft and just lovely. the word "lovely" keeps popping to mind.

"floor pile", the first song sneaks up on you with the most melancholic guitar, piano interplay one can even muster. it is a sad, beautiful song. and her words just hook you, they're abstract but accessible. this is a keeper. if you like cat power, buy this.

The Amps-Pacer
Sounding like a garage pop band from heaven, the Amps barely registered on the radar but it was perfectly fine with Kim and friends. After the success of Last Splash with the Breeders I think Kim really entered a zone with her writing in the Amps and most of the songs are pretty pop-oriented, nothing too different from the Breeders but it's by far my favorite album of Kims'. Her voice is the perfect mix of sugary sweet and sandpaper. 'Tipp City' is the perfect song to get drunk to, and you have to love the original 'Full on Idle' which I think is better than the Title TK version.

This album is such a touching beautiful event. It is not even comparable to previous albums so I don't know why critics like to. It stands alone as the electronic adventure of Billy & band. Billy's voice really shines on this record and every song's production is magical. Perfect mix of dream pop and alt. rock.

Richard Hawley - Coles Corner
"the thing about meeting new boyfriends at Coles Corner, was they had 2 entrances, so if you went in the entrance in Fargate, you could get a look at them before you came face to face, if they were any good you could just come out and walk to the corner, if not you'd walk away.
I suppose we were rahter shallow but you didn't want to be stuck with any pot herb DID YOU?"this is my remembrance of a gorgeous girl from Finland, she's calling me for help, she saids" I'm not sure...........I only know somthing Corner by man" ...........in the second times I see her there then I just ask her " did you buy Richard Hawley's Coles Corner?" "yes!" "is it nice?" " yes! very nice", yes I miss her but I can't see her anymore, I still remember her name Tika, so beautiful, I will marry her if I were straight, then I got this album the oother day, oh my god it just amazing and I put a little meaning in it cause it makes me think of her, finland girl Tika, she's about twenty somthing

aimee mann - bachelor no. 2
i always forget how much i love this album. this is one of her more rocking records. but man, can she write a good song. her melodies are very beautiful and the ones she compose here are among her best. from the sullen pleas in "deathly" and the surging, spherical sound of "calling it quits". her lyrics are perfect, poetic and confrontational at the same time.
-currently listening to glorious harmonies in deathly, with michael penn and juliana hatfield supporting her voice... ahhh, heaven.
