Busted over to Best Buy today and I'll be damned, the EIG re- issue was already on the shelf. I must say the remastered tracks are truly superb. The tracks sound MUCH more full. The overall sound is, IMO, louder with deeper bass, and Liz's voice comes across more clearly. I bet these remasters are unreal on vinyl! Beautiful job! Also LOVE "Say You", great arrangement! Love the sax. Could have been on "Whip Smart". As JOG and FUB pointed out, I too think the instrumental is gorgeous! Everyone already knows how great "Ant in Alaska" is! God it sucks that "Wild Thing" wasn't on here. If it was half as good as the other B sides, it must have been great. Love the picture on the sleeve of Liz's Duo Sonic also, classic! XRay gives this re-issue 5 Stars. Now it's off to watch the dvd.

Any other comments from the rest of you forum members regarding your likes and dislikes with the re-issue?? EDIT: The dvd was very good, alot of behind the scenes stuff about Guyville and the making of the album. Steve Albini was actually fairly complementary to Liz, shocking. Hilarious that Liz used to jones for beer money at the Rainbo

84 minutes long too! Oh one last thing, FUCK Oasis!! When everyone sees the dvd they'll know what that last statement is all about. LOL!

Okay - the dvd was a bit of a snooze at points. I did get teary eyed at a few times though. I must be getting ready to start the rag.
Near the end that Nash guy (who is kind of creepy) says how proud he was of Liz and she leans over to hug him and you get to seem some butt floss. LOL!
Enjoy.

nope. it was still in the shrink wrap and all. there could still be a few unsold copies, but why would they leave them on the shelf when the new one is out for cheaper with bonus tracks and a dvd? that makes no sense cause they're not going to be selling any of the old ones now. they might as well pull it off the shelf. also the old one had a explicit warning sticker, but the new one does not? what is up with that?

Random tidbit – the reissue is #10 on the most active torrents today on what.cd.
It's refreshing to see people downloading Liz's album, sans the illegality of the matter.

I finally got my CD today and I just listened to it. And I have to say it's awesome--except for one thing: Say You. This song would be horrible enough on it's own, but it's made even worse by the fact that ittotally does not go with the rest of the album. It has a reggae feel that seems ENTIRELY out of place on the album. I can't believe no one else has noticed this. Or am I the only person bothered by it?

no, it has been noted before. in the forum. several times. also in reviews.
you're not special.
ahahahaha
kidding
i think it's cute and harmless. kinda dorky.
just been listening to Say You again and again. it's actually a really nice song. it's not horrible. but i think it does fit in more with probably Whip-Smart. i think it's fuckin addictive. the saxophone is great. very charming. saaaaaayyyyyyy youuuuuuuuuuu
the instrumental is tremendous. she sums up the feelings of the album perfectly. it's initially melancholic then goes into this seething, anger. nice touch. i do think the album is better left alone, with strange loop as the closer.

Ant is the only track worth it, and what happened to Wild Thing, is it a copyright issue, because it's horrible that it's not included. Hearing her sing it live compounds the frustration that it wasn't included.

I have to say that I actually don't like the remastering. The vocals seem more sibilant, almost slurry. Or maybe I'm imagining things. This version of "Ant in Alaska" pales in comparison to the GS version but it's nice to have anyway, "Say You" is an amusing curiosity that has really grown on me, and the instrumental is the best of the unreleased tracks (and the most Guyville-sounding)-very melancholy.

i think this remastering is great. much better than a lot of "hot" remasterings down these days. it's warm and inviting without being too loud or loud for loudness sakes. i also like ant in alaska and i like this version better than the girly sound one. i do agree with you about the vocals, but only in some songs. it's does hinder some of the songs, but i think the overal remastering here is terrific and shows an album that was in fine form in an even finer form.

no i don't. i don't think he should be tampering much at all with the originals. remastering an cd though is different than remastering a movie. often times a cd needs to be reamastered as the original master was old or it wasn't on cd originally and when it finally was put on cd it was of poor quality.

I dunno. I just did a side by side listening, and except for being a butt-load louder there is little to make the remaster standout.
I almost feel like the high end is a little too sharp now and some of the richness of the mid frequencies is lost... but I could be hallucinating that.
Anyway, like most remasters, the only real reason to buy this is for the 3 outtakes from the session.
Btw, I will be posting a live version of Wild Thing in the next day or two so you can all get a feel for it.

I didn't notice a difference at all, even after I had attempted it with some nice headphones. Oh well, the bonus tracks and documentary were well worth the 12 bucks at Best Buy.

It's too bad that they didn't include some rough mixes of the other tracks on the re-issue. Oh, but that would cost money. Double album, half the sales.
