Nothing stood out for me this year. Give them to srping awakening again!

^Do you like "Spring Awakening"? The little bits I saw I'm not crazy about, but I'm just not crazy about most modern musicals in general.
we left yesterday
that's because most modern musicals are based on hit hollywood movies such as the wedding singer or legally blonde. and if they're not based on hit hollywood movies they're based on pop culture such as trump or jerry springer. i do think though that xanadu is the only movie that could be turned in a successful and well done musical.

"Xanadu" lends itself really easily to the musical stage. I think so many of the other recent projects are just aiming at the lowest common denominator-the sheer desparation to get younger ticketgoers with money into the theatres. Don't get me wrong, there are have always been some truly horrid musical flops (there is a marvelous book called "Not Since Carrie" by Ken Mandelbaum which gives a full history of flop musicals), but the state of the Broadway Musical just seems pretty dire lately.
