Full Version: What will the 6th studio album sound like?
Liz Phair Forum > Liz Phair > Liz Phair Chat
IndianSummerSky
Liz Phair is at an interesting crossroads in her career right now. Her first 3 albums are widely considered indie classics. Her last two albums divided her fan base so much that her iconic status as an indie-rock queen was pretty much shattered (no pun intended). Now that she's back on an indie label, has a new-found sense of freedom and creativity she hasn't felt since the release of EXILE IN GUYVILLE, what direction in sound and theme can she possibly go in?

I honestly can't see the 2008 Liz Phair going back to total lo-fi territory. Perhaps the poppier, polished sound found on WHITECHOCOLATESPACEEGG will be her blueprint? I'm more curious in hearing her lyrical approach this time around. I truly miss her intelligent, savvy, perceptive, lyrical-storytelling conviction found on her first 3 albums.

At this point in time, what are reasonable expectations for diehard Liz Phair fans?

she'll be delivering a double album, her first. the first cd will be her most poppiest to date. the major label will more than likely demand it. in turn she will get to do an album she likes. the second cd will be all indie. a sequel of sorts to exile in guyville and girlysound but totally original. it will come out and most of the fans will find some reason to rip it to shreds. laugh.gif

Doubt it. I think with all of the hype circulating the re-release – from so many critics – it would be a bad move for ATO to let her release a 'poppy' record. Too many people are betting for a solid record, unlike her last two feats – lyrically and musically.

I'm pretty sure WLY was joking.

i'm consulting my magic crystal ball and it says liz will releasing something very similar to WCSE. or maybe comeandgetit. or even the subtler moments of somebody's miracle like table for one. it'd be nice if she can throw a little bitchy rock nugget like my bionic eyes or something and i can see that happening. we'll see. we'll see.
i guess, it'd be like the remakes for don't apologize and can't get out of what i'm into. which is fine by me.
best case scenario is an album filled with songs like perfect world, uncle alvarez, table for one. those are the songs i can imagine her still writing today. i don't see her coming up with stuff like those in EIG or W-s.

If the new disc is in the same caliber as WCSE, Liz will have Album Of The Year snatched up.

I have a feeling, and I hope its similar to Whitechocolatespacegg. I loved that album so much. I don't care what you guys think, that is the best Liz Phair album. PERIOD! But the horror of all horrors occured the other day, I noticed it was missing from my album collection, and I can't find it! OMG! Nooooooo! sad.gif

I'm with you guys; there is no possible way it's gonna go back to a EIG lo-fi style. I think it makes perfect sense that she'll be going back to a WCSE-like style for this album, but I'm thinking that might be just wishful thinking from fans starved for a very good album. If I had to pick something, I'd say somewhere between WCSE and Somebody's Miracle, but I don't think even that's gonna be an accurate prediction.
Super Nova
dudes, it's gonna sound like White Chocolate Guyville,
mixed with some corny SM shit.
Perfect Misfit
What if it's a completely different sound altogether? I think I'd like that.
Jason.On.Guy
I think all will be pleasantly surprised.

When I read that, I immediately had a horrible mental image of 'MC Liz, rollin' wit her homies and gettin' all bomb diggity fresh on y'all, yo'.
baudrillard
I hear KRS-1 is involved in the project.

As well as Kanye West.

With beats from Fatboy Slim.

And Dizzee Rascal is also involved somehow.

Yes I do. Liz would swing by periodically, kick JeremyEngle in the nuts, then charm some woodland creatures for her encore. It was... totally awesom.
