What do you guys think about Courtney Love?

Dec 25 2004, 03:10 AM
i love courtney love when she's lucid, i mean when she was a part of hole and came up with "live through this". she wowed me with that voice and the twisted lyricism of the songs. she can be quite the songwriter when she wants to. "doll parts" and "softer, softest" are unnerving bits of genius. and "petals" is another amazing song. i hope she sobers up from all the shit. it's not doing her well.

I think Courtney is great. She's a rock star, which is in dire need these days. Too many bands like Jimmy Eat World, who i have nothing against but they look like those IT department guys who come around to fix your computer at work. She's unpredictable. She's dangerous to herself, she might be dangerous to you. That's a rock star! That's hot!
Folks give Courtney shit about "Be a Good Mommy to Frances". I don't get it. Folks never spouted stuff like that to Keith Richards when he was doing every single drug known to man (and some unknown ones) or Rod Stewart when he was getting all that semen pumped out of his stomach. It's a double standard.

I loved Hole, and I love her as a solo act as well... Although, I wish she would get back with Hole...
She's great when she is sober, and hopefully she stays clean for sure now... for Frances, for herself, and for the music.

From what Courtney and Eric have said, most of Hole aren't in good terms. Eric, Courtney, and Melissa are apparently not agreeing with eachother.
Eric says Courtney is mad at him
Courtney says something like Melissa stole something of hers or sold out or something of the sort (it was on an interview a while back)
So it doesn't look like Hole will be getting back together soon.
But a bunch of us on the myspace group "Courtney Love: I Love This Bitch" are getting a letter together to send to Courtney herself about requesting a Hole box set because it is known that Eric would like to put one togther.

melissa auf der maur was a bassist and a back up vocalist of hole. there's the drummer, donna something who's playing with juliette lewis and the licks. eric was drew barrymore's ex boyfriend. they're kind of old, late thirties, early forties.
the first conception of hole is my favorite, pretty on the inside/ live through this days. didn't someone in the band die?

The drummer you're thinking of is Patty Schemel. She's no longer playing with Juliette and the Licks.

Hole's original line up on the "Retard Girl" and "Dicknail" singles, as well as the album Pretty on the Inside, was Courtney on vocals and guitar, Eric Erlandson on guitar, Jill Emery on bass, and Caroline Rue on drums.
Jill and Caroline left the band in early '92. Patty Schemel replaced Caroline, after Kurt recommended her to Courtney (she had auditioned to be Nirvana's drummer at one point) and Leslie Hardy briefly joined as their new bassist. Although Hardy was credited on the "Beautiful Son" single, which was recorded later that year, she didn't actually play on it. Jack Endino, who produced the single, played on the title song, while Courtney took over bass duties on "20 Years in the Dakota."
Kristen Pfaff signed on as bassist on a temporary basis when Hole played a few overseas shows in '93, then signed on full time before the band started recording Live Through This that fall.
After her heroin overdose the following year, she was replaced by Melissa Auf der Maur.
There's a lot of conflicting stories about whether Schemel left the band or was kicked out for her drug use, but only part of Celebrity Skin was recorded with her, with an uncredited studio drummer finishing the remaining tracks. When it came time for the band to tour for that album, Samantha Maloney signed on to replace Schemel (and doesn't actually appear on any of the band's recorded output, with the exception of two b-sides: "Drag" and a cover of Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue," both of which appear on the "Malibu" single).
Schemel was working with Courtney again for a while in 2001 and 2002; she was originally going to be the drummer for Courtney's side project, Bastard, which didn't pan out, then was part of Courtney's live band for the shows she did in October 2001. She also collaborated on some of the songs for Courtney's solo album, America's Sweetheart, but left partway through the sessions and was again replaced by Maloney (who still remains the drummer in Courtney's new all-girl band, the Chelsea).

Courtney is out of her gourd. I was really wanting to see the product of that side project she briefly tried with Louise Post. Not for the music, it was more of like looking at a car wreck waiting to happen. What did that last, like a week or so? Those two are nucking futs.

When I think of Courtney Love, the first thing that comes to mind is "Skank Ho" usually quickly followed by "I can't believe what she has done to the golden child." All of the former Hole bassists are women (Jill Emery, Leslie Hardy, Kristen Pfaff, and Melissa Auf der Maur). Do you mean Eric Erlandson, who played guitar?
In any case, it's not specifically about him or Cobain. It's meant to be a generic "him," representing any number of male musicians -- everyone from Cobain to Jack White to Eminem.
Courtney has said, though, that the "I slashed his tires, I bled his brakes" part is a fictional revenge fantasy against Fred Durst. Keep in mind, the song was already a couple of years old by the time it was released.
