Not sure if I'll get it completely right. Actually I don't remember the order of the songs in the middle. 20 songs. 8 from Guyville. Maybe someone can clean up the song order in the middle. And there was a song I didn't know...

1. Somebody's Miracle
2. Baby got going
3. Soap star joe
4. shitloads of money
5. 6'1''
6. Help me mary
7. Polyester bride

Not sure on the order of these:
8. (some song I didn't recognize, maybe new, maybe from "Liz Phair")
9. Never said
10. Mesmerizing
11. Rock me
12. Uncle Alvarez
13. Red light fever
14. Perfect world

Ended with:
15. Cinco de Mayo (I was about to shout "Where's Whipsmart?!" just before she played this one)
16. Divorce song
17. Flower
18. HWC (fan request, didn't seem like she was intending to play it)
19. Why can't I?
20. Fuck & Run (Forgets the words at one point)

Hey! I'm glad you wrote down...or..uh.. memorized the setlist... I was hoping someone would.

The audience sucked last night, eh? It was the strangest mix of hardcore fans, HOT 20somethings, and awkward middle-aged people. And straight men who were there to watch her legs. She was absolutely fantastic (as always)... it was my 5th time seeing her and she always delivers, even if the audience doesnt.

The setlist wasn't as good as it could be, but I have no complaints...I'd sit through her whole songbook if she was willing to sing it all...ya know? There'll never be a good enough setlist because she simply has too many amazing songs to fit into one show.

The song you're puzzled by is "Lazy Dreamer", quite possibly my least favorite Liz song EVER. I wish she wouldn't have wasted time with that...she coulda thrown in something nifty instead.

rock on.

She has been playing "Lazy Dreamer" at her shows. Saw her in Dallas and Austin. Could this be her next single release? It is not my favorite but I like it. She does look good. Her and Dino were both wearing rings at the 2 performances that I saw.

The LA show was probably the worst Liz show I've seen so far. Don't get me wrong, any Liz show is worth going to, but as far as sound and setlist go, it was pretty weak.

First of all, her band sucked ass. It seemed to me they were high school buddies of Dino's who used to jam together in his garage after school. They kept fucking up the beat/rhythm constantly, which totally kept throwing my groove off.

I could go forever without ever hearing her sing Uncle Alvarez again. When did this become such a fan favorite. And Cinco de Mayo? Why bother with this one either. Baby Got Going? Lazy Dreamer? No Supernova, no Extraordinary, no Jealousy, no Johnny Feelgood or Headache, no Got My Own Thing!

Again, I always love seeing Liz live, and she rarely disappoints, but as far as personal ranking goes, this show's way at the bottom for me. Had fun dancing though.

I wanna tell her that "Cinco de Mayo" would be worthwhile if she would actually play it the way she played it on the album (which I could teach her to do in like 30 seconds if given a chance).

I second that! Also, have you noticed how Mesmerizing is a little different now too?

Yes, I have. Although the changes she made to it (which I believe came as a result of her simply not remembering exactly how it went) don't suck like the 'changes' made to something like "Cinco de Mayo". I can think of 3 things that are different about "Mesmerizing" -- feel free to add to my list if you can think of any others. The last two chords in the pattern at the top of the song -- the funky B-type thing and the truncated C/G-shape chord that follows it are different, but what she substituted for them is equally good, and she's still using the same key notes; it's just a little less dissonant, from what I can tell. I actually can't tell exactly what she's been playing there. The other thing is the absense of the A-shape "D" barre chord right before the open-E-shape "G" barre chord in the middle of the main progression. (I use quotation marks, of course, because the song is actually in G, with a capo at the 3rd fret if the guitar is in standard tuning [but in her current live show, the capo is at the 1st fret because the guitar she uses is already tuned up a full step]).

I wonder how surprised she'd be to learn that there actually ARE people out there paying attention to all this stuff. Even if it is only the two of us. sad.gif

I think what she plays under "...world to spend it" has been changed too. It's the same thing she uses at the end of the progression at the top of the song. I think it's now played 0-7-0-7-x-x, 0-7-0-6-x-x (Capo 3rd fret, low E to high E).

Another thing I noticed is that the last chord in each line of the 1st verse is different too. It used to go E-A-B-E(barred at 7th fret) to 9-9-8-x-x-x. Now it ends with the E barred at the 7th fret slid up to the 9th fret (F#).

I hope this all makes sense. By the way, I've figured out "Fine Again" from a bootleg if you are interested.

YES, you are right. I knew I was forgetting something. I think her original 9-9-8-x-x-x was slightly better, by the way. Although I just tried your "...world to spend it" thing and it sounds good, although my instinct is telling me that it should be 0-7-0-7-x-x, 0-7-0-6-x-x, 0-7-0-7-x-x-, 0-7-9-7-x-x. I don't believe that's actually what she's playing (so I think your tab is correct), because I don't remember seeing that 0-7-9-7 shape, but it seems like the closest approximation to how she used to play it, in terms of vocal melody and the guitar "counter"-melody.

I am in fact very interested in your "Fine Again" tab. Are you confident you've got it down, or do I need to buy the damn thing myself? (I questioned whether a bootleg of a recent Liz show was worth the asking price.)

Also, re: "Cinco de Mayo", have you ever figured out this song entirely? The best two things we have to go on are the bootleg from Town Hall and the MTV 120 Minutes live performance. I could never ever figure out the weird shapes under the phrase "you're a....bout as....." (which actually repeats several times in the song, so it's kind of hard to fudge it when you don't know it exactly). And one other thing: is it just me, or is it really annoying how she (and the band) now end the song with the very conventional 10-12-12-11-x-x, instead of the original, much more ambiguous (and therefore more satisfying) 10-10-10-12-12-x (or was it 10-10-12-12-10-x?)?

yeah, what the hell was going on with the band? did anyone notice dino kept motioning to the soundman to adjust the levels? i was thinking, did you guys do a sound check?? the show was screwed up - the band seemed to be playing lackadaisically. did anyone notice that big blast of distortion that occurred towards the end? dino looked over at the soundman like he was saying, "what in the hell was that??" this was my third liz show, and this definitely must have been an "off" night for the band. i was wondering what was going on with liz when at one point she changed guitars three times before she went into her next song. and this is the first time i've heard of an 11pm "curfew" at the house of blues, i've gone to several shows there. i would much rather have had that missy lady cut back on her set in order to have more of our beloved liz(i thought higgins was boring). if there was a curfew, i wish liz had started earlier than 9:50. i was also disappointed that she didn't do more of her new songs. i was looking forward to maybe hearing "stars and planets", "everything(between us)" and "got my own thing". maybe i should've yelled out those titles like that guy did with "HWC". biggrin.gif i loved hearing all of the "guyville" songs, it's one of my favorite albums of all time. just wish she could've played more new ones, although i'm not disappointed i didn't hear "everything to me."

I would be interested in your version of "Fine Again". I actually am waiting on the studio to return my recording of it. I did it without all the squeeks of running up and down the neck but my chords were from ear and I added a solo between verses kinda country like and the little riffs at the end are shorter.

I completely agree with stoney72's assessment of the LA HoB show... Liz was uninspired, the sound system stunk, and the song selection was stale... I wish she would have had enough faith in her new album to do some of the really good cuts off of it rather than a rehash of "Uncle Alvarez"again... And - NO ENCORES?!?!?... This was the first time out of 7 shows I've seen her that I wasn't blown away or pleasantly surprised by her song selection... Her accoustic show at the Troubadour was much much better...
