Full Version: Which is your favourite Alanis album?

I was listening to Alanis (She's not one of my favourites anymore, but I often give her a listen, and I have all of her albums, dvds, boxset and 9 singles.) and I thought "Hmm, each album is really different, I wonder which people like best?"

So which.

I think her best is either SFIJ or SCC, but I voted SCC, because of that little riff in the title track that had me hooked earlier. Also, I think it's her least happiest

Haha it was just a plan to see who would admit to hating them, so we could find you and kill you! Just kiddin'

Alanis use to be my life.
SFIJ was my life.
Then SCC really was a process of letting go of a lot of things.
Then URS was just my whole "Love life" this year. From R to J. The illusions, what was there, what wasn't.

Then she slipped out of play, and is now a "Sometimes" play. Same with Liz, they sort of slipped together. Though, with Liz it was because of the crap she kept putting out. With Alanis, she just was sort of boring.

I just decided to make this thread because I don't talk about artists other than Heather and Tori more often, and I was listening to SCC this morning, and I thought "You know, I wonder what other people think. If I don't make this thread today, I can't see myself doing so in the future."

I would have made some form of Tori or Heather thread, but in this section, they get discussed a lot. (thanks to me, usually. Well with Heather. A lot of other people Tori-talk too.)

jagged little pill accoustic. her least annoying and i've heard them all.

I used to LOVE Jagged Little Pill when i was like 10.

I still like some of the songs from that album, so it gets my vote.

That's her most annoying. It's not even "accoustic". It's more like "Jagged little Pill Oriental"

how is it annoying? her vocals aren't all over the place and she isn't screaming like a banshee. the more subtle alanis is the best. and um, yeah it's accoustic. what the hell is oriental about that cd? am i missing something? i don't think i have the wrong cd. is there a different version of jagged little pill accoustic?

They make out the cd is stripped down.
It isn't.
Really, what they've done, is taken out some instruments and replaced them with oriental instruments.
I read the linear notes for both albums, and there are actually MORE instruments on jlpa.
So don't come about here pretending you know everything.
UGH you're so annoying.
You musn't have listened to it, otherwise you would have heard the oriental flushes.
You're a moron.

And I hate how the songs don't know what they want to be. Oooh I'm a piano ballard...no, I'm gonna be guitar-led...Oooh no the piano's coming back.

Ugh, you're so stupid!
LightYears
And if you think jlpa is the best, why haven't you voted for it on the poll!?

yeah, i own jagged little pill accoustic. i've heard all of alanis' cd's as i've said before. i don't hear any oriental in this cd at all, but people will hear things differently. it isn't a big deal dude. you really need to chill. i wasn't aruging or anything. at least that wasn't my intention. i was just asking some questions because i really didn't hear the oritental in this and wanted to hear your opinion. as for the accoustic aspect, i've always thought meant not being plugged in. hence the whole accoustic/electric thing. it's stripped down because there isn't a lot of electric guitar, bass, and drums in it. at least not in the plugged sense. it's l;ike mtv unplugged. just becase there are a lot more instruments in the mix doesn't mean it's not stripped down. jaggged little pill accoustic reminds of the 2nd disc on foo fighters in your honor. again not mean to cause any trouble. just giving my thoughts and opinions and asking some questions. no harm meant.

I like how Alanis plays those songs live now. "Too hot" is great.

But that comment is stupid, Shmoopy.

I'm not a big Alanis fan, but just because I like someone's albums who you think is lesser than Liz, I should pretend that two crap cds are good.

Liz is a talented Lady. She can be better than Alanis, she's shown that a lot. But she releases pure crap. And just because the Liz Phair name is on it, I'm not going to embrace it and say "Liz is better than Alanis, I know this cd is crap, but it's Liz, so it must still be better".

And if you don't like it, get the fuck out of an Alanis thread and go kiss Liz's ass.

whoah! stop the presses. i think the point being made was that alanis did the same thing as liz has done with her last two cd's. but yet no one seems to ride alanis' ass about it. um, yeah i think that was it. GO ALANIS!!!!

I don't really think Alanis has "Sold out".
Sometimes I worry that she hasn't changed her style since JLP.

maybe not entirely, but threre is a definitely a change. especially on the last cd, so called chaos. the music may not have changed but the lyrics have. no longer is alanis writing angry female guys pissed me off songs. her marriage has mellowed her out a lot.

You have to really think about S-CC, when you think about it - Nothing in the album is actually solved, is it? I mean, she knows that the only way out is through, and that these excuses have been keeping her safe in her shell, or that it's not all her, but she doesn't do anything about it. She's still making songs like "Spineless", and the album focal point "This grudge", if you read it, she doesn't actually dispell it. She's still "...ever ill equiped".

That's why I'm really interested in seeing what her next studio album will be like.
we left yesterday
very true indeed. the new cd will be intetesting. i'd just wish she'd go back to her short hair though.

For the record, I don't have a problem with Alanis. It was a joke. I don't like every album Liz has made. Not at all. But there's nothing she has done yet that I've considered "pure crap". There's always been a redeeming factor, otherwise I would have lost interest in her a long time ago.

You oughta know is an awesome song to yell out.. just like So Unsexy is awesome to turn up super loud, sing along, and try and do the harmony. God, Alanis is Awesome. I can't wait to get "The Collection", it's going to be wicked.

YES. I just have to scream the line

"When will I start stayyinnngggg wiithhhh myyyyseeelllllf?"

Other must-scream lines;

"I see right throuuuuughh-oughhh you..."
"If I jump in this fountain, will I be forgiiiiiveeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnn?"
"So keep warm my dear, keep drrrryyyyyyyy-yyyyy"

At this concert last year, I did a Stereophonics song, but me and my frined tried to do "Mary Jane". She played it on the piano and I sang, because she's a piano-control freak. And it was good, but my god it was exhausting to sing.
QuieroPhair
Other Good lines to scream out:

Tori: MOTHER MARY!!!!
