My gay friend down in L.A. is going to mail me a copy of the October issue of the gay L.A. Mag Frontiers because one of the teasers on the cover reads Liz Phair (and something to the effect that she doesn't give a damn what the critics say) of course he said it wasn't worded that long. He said I was the first person he thought of when he saw Liz' name and, while he is a so-so WCI fan, he knows how much I adore Liz' music.
Anyway the album was reviewed and the reviewer (who said he's been a huge fan since Guyville) thought the album was great and that it's nice to hear Liz all mature sounding and grown up or something to the effect and it doesn't matter what her old fans think, she's still making great music. There was no rating he believes but he said if there was, the reviewer probably would've given it 5 stars out of 5. My friend couldn't remember what exactly the review said and he didn't have a copy because he left it at the bar. He is going to try to get it for me and mail it to me.
Also, in the same issue there is a very detailed feature story on Liz with some of the same pictures that are on her web site. Cool, because I hate it when a publication uses the old LP pix. Anyway, my friend said in the feature story that the writer asked Liz a lot of questions about Guyville and the changes she's made over the years. Liz basically says she doesn't care and doesn't know why the trashed her so badly. My friend said it is a very good article. When he gets a hold of another copy, he'll mail it to me and I'll try to type out the story along with the review. If you're gay, or gay friendly, and you live in L.A., you may want to stop by your local gay bookstore, bar or anything gay establishment and pick one up. The magazine is free.
