I think we had a thread similar to this, but not quite, so I'm starting one. This is for artists that you think you should like, or have tried to like (perhaps on several different occasions), but just don't. I have quite a few, but I'll start with just 1, Charlotte Martin. She seems like one of those people who would be right up my alley. She plays the piano, has insightful lyrics and a beautiful voice, but for some reason, I just could not get into her music. I like maybe 4 or 5 of her songs, but I don't like any of the other ones that I've heard. I don't really know why, because, like I said, her music should be right up my alley. For whatever reason, it just didn't do much for me.

Missy Higgins. I love female singer/songwriters that play the piano, but not Missy. I can't stand her voice. Her lyrics aren't that great, either.
Norah Jones. Another female that plays the piano, but I find her music rather boring.
Sufjan Stevens. A gorgeous man making pretty folky-pop, but after a while all the songs sound the same. His voice is also extremely thin and he doesn't do much with it.
There are a few more. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone with this post.

Tori Amos. I guess I still have to give American Girl Posse a spin as was suggested to me though. No offense Tori fanatics.

Same goes for me regarding Sufjan. My dad loves his stuff, and it's good music in general, but yeah, the songs just don't do that much for me either. And the songs where there's about 5309 instruments being played at once kind of put me off too.
Fiona Apple, Feist, Alanis Morissette, and Regina Spektor are both artists where I do enjoy their music in general and like a few songs in particular, but I just can't really get into them. They're all seemingly in the category that I'd like, but who knows, they just don't do it for me.

Is Fiona Apple really any good? I know I'm out of touch, but I thought she was some one hit wonder or something? But it sounds like she's has a bigger output than that over the years since she'd registered on my radar.

i can appreciate charlotte martin. she sounds like a second rate sarah slean to me though.
pj harvey is mandatory!!! she is a goddess!!!
fiona apple is pretty good. sometimes, i prefer her over tori amos. her lyrics are clearer. her albums are more consistent and cooler sounding, more rock oriented and stuff. the first album i memorized and listened to forever is when the pawn hits. actually, it's jagged little pill but i try to forget that.
lol
oh. artists i should like but do not.... wait....
hmmm
i can find almost something to like in everyone. i even like the casio beats in fergie's new song. lol
those i don't like are nowhere close my tastes.

Oh the artists I list I can find something I like with them... just they don't hold my attention long. I dunno, I wouldn't call Fiona more consistent, seeing as she's only had 3 albums, compared to Tori's 9 plus numerous, numerous B-sides. I don't really see her work as inconsistent either, just varied, in the way that the vast majority of people will like some of it and dislike a lot but it will be different songs and albums in everyone's case. I just feel lucky that I like all her stuff.

i dunno. fiona's work, even at three albums, seem more complete than tori's, for me of course. tori's work because she spreads herself too thin is a bit of hit or miss. a lot of memorable ones, a looooooooott of stupid shit. you know lol
i thought you liked juliana, cc
hey may king, do you like carina round?

No. I tried (on 3 separate occasions) because she seemed like someone I would like, but ultimately, I didn't. The songs didn't really "grab" me, you know what I mean? I like the lyrics to the songs that people have posted on here, but I don't really like the way that the songs sound.

You don't like Juliana.

Maybe you're listening to the wrong albums. She's got a lot of them for you to find your way into her work. There's a lot of diversity in her material from the Blake Babies to the Juliana Hatfield Three to her solo work to Some Girls. She's changed her style a lot and in the year she released Beautiful Creature, she also released Juliana's Pony. Those two albums, in that single year alone, could not be any further apart in terms of their musical style.

I was never a super fan of hers, either-I loved "My Sister" & "Spin the Bottle" but I never got much more into her than that. I have friends in town who really loved her, though. I was never a Blake Babies fan, either.
As for Bjork, M, you are Just Like SO NOT My Best Internet Friend anymore, Marci...LOL!!!!!!
I don't care-I love, love, love her, but all my other (female) best friends in town don't like her, either...
My best friend always rubs it in that she got to see the Sugarcubes live which I just would have wet myself to, but never was able to...

Björk is great. Immature is one of my very favorite songs recorded. If songs made me cry, it would leave me in tears every time.

Allison Moorer. My god is her music boring. And her cover of Gillian Welch's "Revelator" is atrocious.
I don't care for her sister (Shelby Lynne) either.
