be prepared to be blown away. it quite possibly is the best cd of the year. it's already in metacritic's top ten best rated of the year. by the way does it have a bonus track? allmusic says it does although it's not listed.

Meh, metacritic is often inaccurate of the general feelings of reviewers. The majority of American Doll Posse reviews loved it, yet it's average was 69, they leave out a lot often.
Any ways, Revolution in Me by Siobhan donaghy finally arrived today. While I don't think I'll like it as much as I love ghosts, it's shaping up to be very, very good. Shame about its lack of success, hopefully Ghosts doesn't suffer the same fate.

I didn't come up with a hidden track either with EAC or iTunes. My CD player doesn't play one either. Maybe it was only in the advance copy?
This is a really nice album that I am very happy with.

Absolute Garbage
Best Buy had it on sale for $9.99. This is a best of album and only has one new song on it.
I had the first album on cassette only (picked it up when I was up in the DC area on one of my business trips in the mid 90s). I was partial to "Stupid Girl" and "I'm Only Happy When It Rains" off of that album, but I know that there's other cuts from that album here.

That's entirely cool. I've gotten some pretty good tips on music from you and that's part of the value that I place on this forum.
Maybe someone else will like what I like, but then again, maybe not. I'm pretty old, you know.

Everyone else on here who likes Garbage generally likes all of their music.
I don't know what it is, but I've never gotten past the debut. All their later singles just felt like they were trying to recreate something and the chemistry just wasn't there for me.

I always thought Version 2.0 was their best record. It was slicker than their self-titled debut but god are the songs good.
From here onwards however, things started to go downhill. beautifulgarbage, described as a David Lynchian record, overall has neither the intrigue nor the creativity of said icon. However, some songs stand out like the 60s-pop Can't Cry These Tears, the sombre ballads Drive You Home and So Like a Rose that Garbage do so well, the spooky Nobody Loves You, the typical but fun. anthemic Parade and of course, the glossy Cherry Lips. The rest of the record is either alright or mediocre.
Bleed Like Me is a massive improvement over the muddled beautifulgarbage but nothing new is being said. All it does is confirm Garbage's strengths that were prominent on their debut. Thus, while it is a solid record, it's a blatant attempt to recapture the glory they've lost since Version 2.0.
The Absolute Garbage collection thankfully focuses more on their 90s work rather than their 00s stuff (although the world is not enough should have been discarded). However, in the 5 songs chosen to represent their 2 albums released in the 00s, only 3 deserve to be here (Why Do You Love Me, Bleed Like Me, Cherry Lips). The other 2 (It's All Over But the Crying and Shut Your Mouth) are garbage-by-numbers. In their places, I would have placed Right Between the Eyes (from Bleed Like Me) and Can't Cry These Tears (beautifulgarbage). The new song, Tell Me Where It Hurts, could have been good but there's too much going on in terms of the production. The whole song is just a wash of sound and while it's pleasant, it's not memorable.
To be honest, I think this is the end of Garbage. But there's always Shirley Manson's solo record around the corner.

reddie, it's not the end of garbage. they're already working on a new record and they're eying mid 2008 to release it.

i like all their albums. sure, there are some weak spots but there are some gems in all of them. i'm not excluding their debut from that. their debut had some songs for the life of me i cannot embrace, songs that sound like weak versions of songs already done by shoegaze band Curve.
oh and i would have imagined lightyears would like "you look so fine". i imagine him having sex to that song. lol. or getting dateraped.

i got this second-hand.
pros: delicious electro-pop/R&B tracks
cons: ballads. they're not as bad as the godawful Unfaithful but the main problem is that her voice is too undemanding to pull them off. the more studio trickery there is, the better rihanna sounds.

Good luck. I don't even care what anyone likes anymore apparently, because I've loved SY since I was a kid, but I don't even really have any advice about getting into them. They're such artists though, they culivate these sonic shells. Each song is like and atom, and their guitars bring into being particle/waves of sound that just build upon eachother. There's extravagence there, minamalism too; they have such a huge catalogue, so there is no way to summarize them.

i'm on the fence with this band. they're normally the type of band that i would not even touch. as i loathe a lot of what they stand for/represent. but for some reason i like them. especially their more recent material. yet i'm not really into them all that much. i try to get further into them and i don't necessarily. which is i'm on the fence about them. although i really dig the new thurston moore cd. i've been playing that one for a while now. i think it's probably his finest work. in and out of sonic youth. it appeals much more to my sense of taste.
