The Heavy Circles
The Heavy Circles
Family ties bind the Heavy Circles, the latest project from veteran vocalist Edie Brickell and newcomer Harper Simon. Their familial connection centers on Paul Simon—Brickell’s husband and Harper’s dad—but musically, the duo’s self-titled debut finds little in common with Simon senior. While there’s the occasional hint of Brickell’s giddy, free-spirited approach, Harper’s songwriting and production prowess tip this set more toward ambiance than attitude. Elegiac ballads like “Confused,” “Easier” and “Maximo” are awash in lush textures and nocturnal sensibilities, while the swirling atmospherics of “Wait” and “Oh Darlin” reinforce the album’s cerebral feel. Simon’s tenure in New York’s adventurous studio scene is also evident—in the hipster vibe of “Henri,” the Blondie-like rumble of “Dynamite Child” and the eclectic influences that circulate throughout. Consequently, by pooling their talents, Simon and his stepmom have created a genuine family jewel. —LZ

k, I started grabbing the album. First track is all I've listened to so far, it's okay. Did she do one without the Bohemians and then another with them again? I totally lost track. At least this sounds interesting, still I'd have to check out a lyric sheet to see if I actually approve.
May King, sorry to sound ignorant, but can I just check whom the three pics added to the end of your posts are?

cheers wooden and alone, I guess I might give this new outling a listen before I back track. Although I must say I've only just discovered the Artist of the Day thread, I don't know why I didn't check it before, I'm going to be checking out some of those people mentioned there. That'd be the worst thing if this site suddenly dissapears, 40+ pages to check out. Who keeps mentioning Jewel though!

Nice tips from those pages, I have some research to do.
I've always meant to get around to checking out Cat Power, I seriously don't have a good excuse for that.

it's like an archive of braggart behavior
also, a coming of age diary.
you can see how some of us grew up through the shit we play and patterns in listening behavior.
might be a nice social document or something.
anyway, start with cat power's moon pix if you're gonna check her out. it's her most hushed effort but it's her best, for me.

I like You Are Free best by Cat Power. Then again I really haven't given Moon Pix a fair chance yet, aside from American Flag and Cross Bones Style.
Hmm, well "To Venus and back" is my favorite album, and the fact that they compare this album to it makes me want to check it out...
