Actually, I'd just like to point out that ever since the huge explosion of popularity in digital music, the record companies have actually been on the rise, believe it or not. We talked about this in my Mass Communications class. It's because they were charging (and still charge) ridiculous amounts of money for CDs at places like FYE, so people were like, "Fuck that," and downloaded it for free. Well, that lead to iTunes and the music store, where you can download a song for .99 cents, which ain't so bad when the CD has 14 or 15 songs and you only have to pay 14 or 15 bucks, whereas a lot of stores would be charging 18 to 20, maybe even 23 dollars for a CD. And unfortunately, a lot of stores STILL do that. But even though they want you to think that downloading has been hurting the industry, it has really helped it a lot. I, for one, and downloading the album right now, and I plan on buying it October 4th, just because Liz is one of my favorite artists. Now, her last album might not have sold as well as Capitol had hoped, but it obviously sold enough, because they're letting her make another album. Otherwise, they would have dropped her. Major record companies are ALL about the money. They're not losing money on Liz, so they continue to promote her. She may not be making music that's as good as she used to be, but it sells, regardless. Mass media is NOT catered for the general public. It's ALL about what will make money. Huge record companies will continue to put out shit music as long as the brain-washed public will eat it up, and they'll be laughing all the way to the bank. Oh, and not EVERY album leaks before it comes out, but a big majority of them do. The new HORSE the band CD (who is on a semi-well known label) just leaked today, and it comes out tomorrow. But yeah, I'm excited to hear the new Liz material, but I just wish it would download faster.
