Earlier today, I went to this little store called Finders Keepers, and they had a bunch of CDs. I was looking through them, and I found Tori Amos' Boys For Pele CD. I asked how much the CDs are, and I was really excited to discover that they were only a dollar. I also found Poe - Haunted, the Higher Learning soundtrack (which I bought just for the Liz song), and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Ska-Core, The Devil & More (for my friend). I decided to buy the Tori CD because I've heard great things about her here (and any singer/songwriter who covers Raining Blood is awesome in my book). I'm only on Professional Window now, but I really like what I'm hearing. And I was surprised at how much I like the Poe album. It's fantastic.

tori really is amazing.
she's also really diverse. a lot of people really didn't understand the point of her latest record and dismissed it as crap. then again tori fans are silly like that; disliking the latest record until the next one comes and then it's all of a sudden just as good as her other work.
pele is an interesting record to start with. i'm glad you liked it!

yeah, poe's haunted is tops. i love the title track off the one.
and glad that you entered the tori zone with boys for pele, it's her most inaccessible album yet and if you like it, chances are you're gonna like more of her work.

Haunted is a great song! It really is a haunting song. I haven't been listening to Pele as much because my friend just lent me his copy of Avenged Sevenfold's City of Evil CD because mine is broken, and I've been dying to listen to it. But I still love Pele. And I'll be sure to get more into (haven't listened to it thoroughly).

I bought Pretty Good Year this rarely single HK$15

I bought little earthquakes for 4 times, as I remember I borrowed it out and it never returened, I bougth one for my teacher, one more also never returened, last time I bought for myself and I SWEAR I don't EVER lend tori's album to anyone!
I have plan to buy choirhotel again cause few tracks keep skipping

I bought choirgirl too!
The only tori album i never bought was Strange litle girls. The concept is good, and was a good idea: it just isn't good.
So I borrowed a copy from the library and burned it to my comp.

My brother's girlfriend is awesome! She brought over her CDs, and I immediately snagged and ripped all her Tori Amos, Julianna Hatfield, and Heather Nova CDs (because I've been hearing such great things about all of them here). I also enjoy talking to her because ALL of my friends listen to hardcore and metal (I'm from New England; we BREED these bands), and she's the only person I can talk to about this kind of music (in person). She also likes Liz, but I already have all her CDs, so I'm set.

From The Choirgirl Hotel is my fave Tori, I thought her latest Beekeeper or whatever WAS crap. One long old song if you ask me.
Poe is fabulous and I cant beleive she was just a blip on the screen. That cd was something else.
Julianna Hatfield does no wrong but I am not that familiar with Heather Nova.
If you are into guitar driven females, check out Auf der Mar.

Under the Pink was my first Tori album and probably my least favourite other than The Beekeeper. I have all of them except From the Chiorgirl Hotel, To Venus and Back, and Strange Little Girls.
I love Poe also. I think I like Hello more than Haunted, but I really can't decide because they're both so great.

I bought her CD awhile ago, but I haven't really listened to it that much. I need to give it another spin or two. I remember liking Followed The Waves, though.

you know tapes are significantly more expensive to make than cds? the only reason they cost less is the status quo.

My first Tori cd was actually The Beekeeper. I got it cheap around the time when it came out.
I think her weakest cd is actually To Venus and back. It use to be one of my favourites but it's a charmer that looses its charm.
And I think the press for Boys for Pele is crap! It's not difficult. I put it in and I knew then that I would love it.
I think her most difficult album is Under the Pink. Strong songs, Weak flow. Tori still wishes she had put "Honey" on it, and she should have put the "Bells for her" "cornflake girl" "Waitress" triangle in the right order. It would have flowed better. She admits she didn't put them in order.
And I like The Beekeeper. It reminds me of Redbird without the loud and fast compositions.
My favourite Tori records are Little Earthquakes, Boys for pele, From the Choirgirl and Scarlet's walk.
And in regard to Strange little girls - It captures an important sound. Something between Venus and Scarlet's walk. I can't help but wonder if people would have taken to it better if it had been a "Girl and her piano interpretations" rather than all those weird sounds. Lol! The live "Rattlesnakes" is so powerful, and the same with the song "Raining Blood."
I think Tori worked best as a girl and piano. That was her thing. It was what defined her. Even a girl and a hammond, but the full band sometimes gets on my nerves.
(Oh and Heather Nova rocks - yehaaa!)

Ah lucky for getting Boys for Pele so cheap! All the Tori Albums I have bought have been so expensive, that's why I don't own many.
I agree, the order for Under the Pink doesn't flow so well, but I do love that album
